Savannah Guthrie is reportedly struggling emotionally behind the scenes as the search for Nancy Guthrie enters the 100-day mark.
Savannah returned to the “Today” show last month amid the ongoing investigation into the disappearance of her 84-year-old mother.
While the anchor appears poised and professional on air since her comeback, a source told Page Six that she’s been more emotional backstage.
“She’s gotten emotional between commercial breaks,” the insider told the outlet, adding that Savannah quickly composes herself before cameras start rolling again.
Savannah Guthrie Emotional Backstage Amid Nancy Guthrie Search
The source added that while Savannah Guthrie has become more emotional amid the search for Nancy Guthrie, it doesn’t happen every day.
“Sometimes a fan will say something sweet to her, whether that is a guest or a sign from a fan outside that makes her feel touched,” the source added. “It’s to be expected.”
Another source told Page Six that “everyone” on set has been marveling at Savannah’s “strength and bravery.”
“It’s never going to be ‘business as usual’ for her, but it’s important to her to put one foot in front of the other and keep going,” the insider noted.
The outlet added that the staff and cast of the “Today” show have been very supportive of Savannah as she deals with the disappearance of her mother, Nancy.
“Jenna Bush is a source of comfort to her,” the source revealed. “She leans on Jenna a lot.”
Savannah Guthrie’s Mother’s Day Tribute to Missing Nancy Guthrie
On Sunday, Savannah Guthrie honored Nancy Guthrie with a sweet Mother’s Day tribute.
The “Today” co-host took to Instagram and shared photos and videos of Nancy with the Guthrie family.
“Mother, daughter, sister, Nonie — we miss you with our every breath,” Savannah captioned the post. “We will never stop looking for you. We will never be at peace until we find you.”
Meanwhile, Savannah also announced that she’ll be hosting NBC’s new game show “Wordle,” alongside its executive producer, Jimmy Fallon.
“I’m so happy it’s you — we were looking for the perfect host for this,” Fallon told Savannah on Monday. “We needed someone who looks like they play Wordle, someone who knows how to run a show. We did the pilot, and you were amazing.”
In an interview (via the New York Times), Savannah revealed that her latest project had been a point of connection between her and her mother.
“It’s strange to get up and do the ‘Today’ show every day, and it’s strange to say that I’m going to do a game show when your heart is broken,” Savannah added. “Nothing about that has changed, and it’s not easy. But I’m determined to put one foot in front of the other. And this is a joyous thing.”
