Amid the uncertainty surrounding her mother’s disappearance, Savannah Guthrie briefly returned to the studio of the NBC morning show “Today”. As per a video published by TMZ on Thursday, this marks her first visit to the set since the family crisis began earlier this year.
Here’s what her appearance could mean for the NBC show moving forward.

TMZ reports that the visit was not an on-air return. Instead, the longtime co-anchor stopped by to spend time with colleagues and thank the team that has supported her during the difficult weeks since her mother vanished.
TMZ also reported that Savannah has not announced when, or if, she will return to the anchor desk at “Today.” However, the outlet noted that the show’s team would ‘welcome her back with open arms’ whenever she feels ready to take back her position.
“Savannah Guthrie stopped by the studio this morning to be with and thank her Today colleagues,” an NBC News spokesperson said in a statement provided to The Hollywood Reporter.
“While she plans to return to the show on air, she remains focused right now supporting her family and working to help bring Nancy home.”
There is currently no confirmed date for Guthrie’s on-air return.
Savannah’s Beloved Mom, Nancy Guthrie, Has Been Missing Since Late January
Savannah Guthrie has remained off the air since her mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona.
Multiple outlets, including CBS, reported that Nancy, 84, was last seen during the weekend of Jan. 31, 2026. Authorities believe she may have been abducted. She has a heart condition and has not been heard from since.
NBCUniversalThe case is being investigated by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI. More than a month later, officials say they still have no clear leads.
Nancy was also a familiar face to many viewers of “Today.” She occasionally appeared on the program when visiting her daughter.
“We also know that she may be lost. She may already be gone,” Guthrie said in the Instagram video announcing the family reward. “She may have already gone home to the Lord that she loves and is dancing in heaven with her mom and her dad, with her beloved brother, Pierce, and with our daddy.”
Investigators previously reviewed video doorbell footage that showed a masked and armed man near the home. Authorities have not yet identified the person seen in the brief clips.
At one point, investigators detained a man connected to the case, but he was later released. Officials say the search has faced several setbacks and that many tips have not led to significant breakthroughs.
The Guthrie family had initially hoped to announce a reward earlier in the investigation. However, according to a source close to the family who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos advised against it early on out of concern that it could overwhelm investigators with false tips.
Even as the days pass without answers, Guthrie and her family continue to hold on to hope. The search for Nancy Guthrie has now entered its second month, and more details about the case can be found on the FBI’s official website.
