Savannah Guthrie returned to the “Today” show on Monday, April 6, after a lengthy absence following her mother, Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance. The 84-year-old has been missing from her Tucson, Arizona home since February 1, and is believed to have been abducted.
Savannah’s triumphant return has been celebrated, including by retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer.
Fans Show Support for Savannah Guthrie After Her Return to Work
Coffindaffer reacted to Savannah’s brave decision to return to work and celebrated her with a post on X on April 6. She posted a photo of Savannah smiling and wearing yellow, a color that has been a symbol of hope amid her mother’s disappearance. “Savannah returned with lots of yellow and lots of smiles,” Coffindaffer wrote. “She hasn’t missed a beat. It’s good to see that while Porch Guy to her mother, he did not take her spirit. Porch Guy, you did not win.”
The “Porch Guy” that Coffindaffer is referring to is the unidentified person wearing a ski mask outside Nancy’s home. The footage was shared by the FBI and circulated by family, friends, and the public in the hopes that someone would be able to identify this person. He is believed to be responsible for Nancy’s abduction. Savannah herself has shared footage on Instagram, urging the public for their help.
GettyThe comment section of Coffindaffer’s post has been flooded with supportive messages. “Savannah I am glad you are back. Prayers for you and your family,” a comment reads. “Proud of her for trying to be strong and plodding on the best she can. I can tell by her eyes she understandably has been in tears again and again but her mom would want her to get bk to work and try. She is putting a brave face on,” another fan shared.
A third comment reads, “I’m happy for Savannah’s return to the today Show. As tragic as her mother’s kidnapping is, Savannah’s life must go on. My hope is that her own personal grief and struggles are able to be coped with by her so her life may go on. She bears no blame.”
New Notes in Nancy Guthrie Case Revealed
GettySavannah’s return to work was already an emotional moment for all those invested in her mother’s case, but it was marred by new letters being sent to TMZ, offering information on Nancy’s whereabouts and details about the kidnapper in exchange for Bitcoin.
TMZ reports that the letters were from “the same person offering information on the kidnapper. But for the first time, they’re revealing an exact location and claiming they saw her in Mexico.” The claims made about Nancy are still being verified. It is unclear whether the timing was intended to throw Savannah off or cause more pain for the family.
“The writer of the note may have no information wanting to create false hope (being vindictive) to see Savannah’s reaction… and this fuels interest in the writer looking for recognition,” former NYPD detective David Sarni told Parade in an interview on Monday, April 6.
