“Only Murders in the Building” co-stars Martin Short and Selena Gomez both sat in the same row during the award ceremony on Sunday, September 14, 2025. The latter caught the former grinning from ear to ear in a heartwarming moment.
Selena Gomez Spots Martin Short Texting Meryl Streep
Short and Gomez were missing their “Only Murders” co-star, Meryl Streep, who did not attend the event.
In a video post that is circulating on X, Gomez glances over at Short from two seats over, while Steve Martin is talking to him. Short appears not to hear a word being spoken to him. Instead, he sports a huge grin, wholly engrossed in his device.
“He’s texting Meryl,” Gomez appears to mouth to her future husband, Benny Blanco.

Meryl Streep & Martin Short’s ‘Completely Unexpected’ Romance
In March 2025, Page Six released a report stating that Streep and Short had been dating for “well over a year now.
The report says that neither “were looking for a relationship when they started dating.” They added, “Meryl couldn’t help but fall for Martin. He is a gentleman, he keeps her laughing, and is an all-around positive person. She loves being around him.”
Streep and Short’s “completely unexpected” romance has the seal of approval from their friends and family.
“Friends and family, including their kids, absolutely approve of their relationship and think they’re adorable together,” the above report states.
Page Six also reports that the two have no plans to marry, citing they are “happy dating as boyfriend and girlfriend.”
