Tiger Woods is staying true to his independent lifestyle, even as he faces renewed attention following a recent incident in Florida.
After a Friday, March 27, crash near Jupiter Island in Florida, a source told PEOPLE the golf legend has made a conscious decision not to hire a personal driver—opting instead to maintain control over his daily routine.
While some might expect a shift after the accident, those close to Woods say his mindset hasn’t changed.
Woods’ Values His Privacy
“He doesn’t want anyone to watch over him or know what he is doing,” the source shared, adding that Woods feels confident handling things on his own.
The 15-time major champion was involved in a rollover crash that left his vehicle on its side.
According to reports, the accident occurred after his car clipped another vehicle before overturning.
Woods was able to exit the vehicle on his own and was not seriously injured.
He was later charged with DUI with property damage, as well as refusal to submit to a lawful test. A representative for Woods has not publicly commented.
Despite the headlines, the source emphasized that Woods’ focus remains on privacy and maintaining a grounded lifestyle away from constant scrutiny.
“He is not a social butterfly and prefers to hang around his home with his kids, or hitting balls, or playing video games,” the source explained to the outlet. “He despises public scrutiny.”
Woods’ Focus Is on His Family
That desire for a quieter life plays a major role in his decision-making.
Rather than introducing more people into his inner circle, Woods reportedly prefers to keep things simple and familiar.
Family is at the center of that world. Woods shares two children—Sam, 18, and Charlie, 17—with ex-wife Elin Nordegren, and much of his time is spent at home with them.
Those close to the athlete say he values being present and maintaining a sense of normalcy for his kids.
He is also currently dating Vanessa Trump, who is said to fit seamlessly into his private, low-key lifestyle.
Woods’ history shows a pattern of resilience through challenges.
In 2021, he survived a serious car crash in Los Angeles that required extensive recovery.
He was also involved in a separate incident in 2009 near his Florida home.
Through it all, he has remained focused on what matters most to him—his family, his routine, and his independence.

It’s alright to be “independent” but you need to be able to stay on the road when you drive.
