Travis Kelce Skips 2026 Pro Bowl as He Takes Time to Figure Out What’s Next

Travis Kelce is sitting out the 2026 Pro Bowl, with Buffalo Bills tight end Dalton Kincaid stepping in to take his place.

The Kansas City Chiefs star  officially withdrew from the NFL’s annual all-star event less than a month after the Chiefs wrapped up their 2025–26 season. The Pro Bowl is set for Feb. 3, and the Bills confirmed on Jan. 26 that Kincaid would replace Kelce on the roster. While Kelce was selected for the game, Pro Bowl appearances are optional, and players are not required to participate, per E! News.

Kelce’s decision immediately sparked conversation, not just because of his long history with the Pro Bowl, but because it comes during a moment of reflection for the veteran tight end as he considers what comes next in his NFL career.

A Season That Left Kelce With Questions

The Chiefs’ season ended on a difficult note, marked by injuries and an earlier-than-expected finish. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a torn ACL in December, adding to the challenges the team faced late in the year.

Kelce addressed the emotional toll of the season during the Jan. 7 episode of the “New Heights” podcast, where he admitted the ending made him pause and think about his future.

“It’s a tough way to go out, especially with the amount of success and the standard that you hold,” Kelce said, explaining that he planned to step back and take time to evaluate his next move.

Still, Kelce made it clear that retirement is not a closed door. If he feels healthy and confident, he said returning to the field would happen “in a heartbeat,” leaving fans watching closely as speculation continues.

Earlier this month, Kelce’s Pro Bowl exit was described by a Bills beat writer as an “injury replacement,” though neither Kelce nor the Chiefs have confirmed that he is dealing with an injury, per Daily Mail. Kelce has not played since Kansas City’s season-ending loss on Jan. 4, which only added to the questions surrounding his absence.

Looking Ahead Beyond Football

While his future on the field remains undecided, Kelce has stayed busy off it. He and brother Jason Kelce recently announced a June release of a book inspired by their “New Heights” podcast, per People, marking a new creative chapter for the duo. He is also entering a major personal milestone after getting engaged to Taylor Swift in August 2025, with wedding plans expected to take shape once football season is behind him.

For now, Kelce appears focused on rest and reflection as he weighs what comes next. Speaking on “New Heights,” he said that if the timing and his health align, a return to the NFL would still happen “in a heartbeat.”
