Mama June Shannon stepped out in New York City this week looking confident and refreshed as she promoted the upcoming season of her family’s reality series — and fans couldn’t help but notice her continued transformation.
Mama June Was With Her Family
The 46-year-old appeared at SiriusXM Studios in Manhattan alongside daughters Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson and Jessica Shannon to celebrate the March 13 return of “Mama June: From Not to Hot” on We TV.
During the outing, June looked happy and energized, debuting bold red hair and sleek black pants with a top that has black and white flowers on it.
Her appearance marked another visible milestone in a weight journey that has spanned more than a decade, reflecting both the challenges and progress she has openly shared with fans over the years.
At her heaviest, June weighed over 500 pounds.
After undergoing gastric sleeve surgery in 2016, she dropped to around 150 pounds.
Over the years, she has been candid about regaining weight amid personal struggles and yo-yo dieting.
In April 2024, she admitted she had put back on 130 pounds.
Just months later, however, she revealed she had lost 30 pounds in two months after starting weight-loss medication, according to Entertainment Tonight.
Opening Up About a Health Scare
Beyond her physical transformation, June has also been navigating health challenges.
In a recent interview with Page Six’s “Virtual Reality Tea,” she revealed she underwent an unexpected total hysterectomy last April.
“It was not expected,” she explained, sharing that doctors discovered fibroid cysts that later separated, prompting concern.
The procedure came just months after the heartbreaking loss of her daughter Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, who died in December 2023 following a battle with cancer at age 29.
Given her family’s recent experience, June admitted her mind went to the worst-case scenario.
“Me, in my mind, going through what Anna went through, I was worried it was going to be ovarian cancer,” she said. “I even told the [other] kids that. I was in my head for a long time.”
While she confirmed she is now in menopause and continues to deal with separate medical issues, she emphasized that doctors have reassured her the condition is not life-threatening.
“Some days are a struggle for me, but it’s nothing like [cancer],” she shared. “I tell people, ‘We know it’s not ever gonna kill me, but it could immobilize me.’”
Despite the ups and downs, June’s latest public appearance reflected resilience.
With a new season ahead and her family by her side, she appeared focused on health, healing and moving forward — one step at a time.
