Anthony Geary’s Daytime Television Legacy

While Geary is best known for portraying Luke Spencer on “General Hospital,” the role was not his first soap opera opportunity.

The actor got his daytime start in 1971 on “Bright Promise,” where he portrayed David Lockhart for a year. He later joined “The Young and the Restless” in 1973, appearing briefly as George Curtis.

Geary first arrived in Port Charles in 1978 and portrayed Luke Spencer continuously until 1984. He then took a nearly decade-long hiatus before returning to the soap in 1993, where he reprised his role of Luke Spencer until his retirement in 2015.

Although Geary retired from full-time acting, he made a brief return to the series in 2017. The appearance marked his final time on-screen as Luke Spencer before his passing in 2025.

More than a decade after stepping away from “General Hospital,” Geary continues to be remembered by fans and loved ones alike. As Claudio Gama’s birthday tribute demonstrated, the actor’s legacy extends far beyond his work on television, with those closest to him continuing to celebrate his life and memory.
