Soap opera icon Genie Francis shared a beautiful tribute to her beloved former co-star, the legendary Anthony Geary, in the wake of his death. Geary, who played Luke Spencer on “General Hospital” for years, died on December 14, according to TV Insider.
Genie Francis Is ‘Crushed’ to Learn of Anthony Geary’s Death
Shortly after news of Geary’s death became public, Francis posted a tribute to her former leading man on X, formerly Twitter. “He spoiled me for leading men for the rest of my life,” Francis wrote.
She continued, “I am crushed, I will miss him terribly, but I was so lucky to be his partner.”
Francis added, “Somehow, somewhere, we are connected to each other because I felt him leave last night. Good night sweet prince, good night.”
Several additional tweets on Francis’ page provided further context.
“This morning I woke up and went into my husband’s arms. In my sleep, my life was flashing before me and I was afraid of death,” she wrote.
Just an hour later, Francis revealed, she learned of Geary’s death from “General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini. She admitted, “I immediately felt remorse, I hadn’t spoken to him in years.”
“I felt his life end in my sleep last night, and with it a big part of me, and mine,” Francis wrote.
Francis gushed, “He was a powerhouse as an actor. Shoulder to shoulder with the greats. No star burned brighter than Tony Geary. He was one of a kind.”
She also acknowledged that sometimes Geary could be a little blunt or rude with his “passion for the truth.” Despite that, Francis noted, he was also “always hilariously funny.”
The ‘General Hospital’ Star Noted Geary Was ‘Always Exciting’ to Work With
“General Hospital” fans flooded Francis’ post with replies filled with love and heartbreak.
“I’m so sorry for your loss. He will be missed so much. I remember the day that you and him got married on ‘General Hospital,'” one fan tweeted.
“Luke & Laura will live forever in our memories. Genie, my love and prayers to you and Tony’s family,” someone else posted.
The love story of Luke and Laura on “General Hospital” was iconic, as all long-time “General Hospital” fans know.
As Yahoo! Entertainment shared in 2023, the wedding was watched by 30 million fans when it aired in two parts on “General Hospital” in November 1981. It was, and remains, the most-watched soap opera event in history.
Geary decided to leave “General Hospital” in 2015, although he returned for one episode in 2017 as part of the farewell to Jane Elliot’s Tracy. In 2022, People noted that “General Hospital” killed the character of Luke off-screen.
In the string of tweets Francis posted about Geary’s death, she shared, “He was the anti-hero, always so irreverent, but even the most conservative had to smile. Working with him was always exciting. You never knew what might happen.”
