‘General Hospital’ Legend & 8-Time Emmy Winner Passes Away – He Will Be Missed

Beloved “General Hospital” alum Anthony Geary has passed away.

The veteran actor, known for his role as Luke Spencer on the long-running ABC soap, reportedly died on December 14, according to TV Insider.

The outlet revealed that Geary suffered complications from a medical procedure he underwent three days prior.

Geary’s husband, Claudio Gama, confirmed the sad news to the outlet, saying, “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband.”

Weeks before Geary’s passing, he was seen watching his former co-star, Genie Francis, on Maurice Bernard’s “State of Mind” podcast.

“It really made Tony very happy,” Gama captioned a video he shared on Instagram. “He told me, ‘those are two lovely and talented people, great friends, and I miss them.’”

Anthony Geary won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2006.

Before his “General Hospital” stint, Geary appeared on popular series, including “The Partridge Family,” “The Mod Squad,” and “All in the Family.”

He then joined “Bright Promise” as David Lockhart from 1971-1972, followed by a controversial role as rapist George Curtis on “The Young and the Restless.”

Greary debuted as Luke on “General Hospital” on November 20, 1978. He left the show at the end of 1983, only to return in 1991 as Luke’s lookalike cousin, Bill Eckert. He ultimately exited the soap in July 2015.

Other projects the actor appeared in include “Intimate Agony, “Do You Know the Muffin Man?,” “The Disorderlies,” “You Can’t Hurry Love,” “Crack House,” “Weird Al Yankovic‘s UHF,” “Scorchers,” “Night of the Warrior,” and “Carpool Guy.”


Heartfelt Tributes Pour In for the ‘General Hospital’ Star

Fans mourned the heartbreaking loss of Geary, flooding social media with tributes to the beloved “General Hospital” icon.

One fan wrote on Reddit, “I can’t even begin to explain how massive the Luke and Laura saga was back in the day. That was probably the biggest daytime soaps ever was. The entire industry rode it too from the 80’s through into the mid 90’s.”

Another commented, “Some people on here won’t get just how big this dude was at one point in time.”

Someone noted, “Oh man. These last couple of days have been really rough. So sad about this news.”

Following his retirement from “General Hospital” in 2015, Geary relocated to Amsterdam with Gama. They got married in 2019.
