Katelyn MacMullen is celebrating eight years since making her “General Hospital” debut as Willow Tait. She arrived in Port Charles as a kind school teacher, and fans quickly watched as the layers of her dark past began to peel away. She eventually seemed to find her footing as a GH nurse, married to Michael Corinthos, and mother to Wylie and Amelia. That stability lasted for a few years, until a fling with Congressman Drew Cain blew up Willow’s entire world.
Willow is currently the prime suspect in Drew’s shooting, and she has seen her children once in the last six months. As her world continues to unravel, Katelyn MacMullen recently told Soaps.com just how grateful she is for the ride.
“Personally, I’ve learned so much about my process and even why I am drawn to this work in the first place. As for Willow, she’s definitely a little lost these days,” explains the actress.
Willow’s World Has Radically Changed
ABCIn her early GH days, Willow quickly found herself married to Harrison Chase, probably the nicest guy in town.
“Who could have imagined this is where Willow would wind up. I totally remember my first day. I got to work with Becky [Herbst, Liz] and Roger Howarth [ex-Franco], and I was so nervous! But at the end of the day, I thought, ‘Great, I survived.’”
Willow’s world has changed radically over the last eight years, but the actress believes that in itself, it isn’t so unusual. “Willow started in one place and has now gone in completely the opposite direction, and in life, you do the same thing. You have ups and downs, and along the way, you figure things out about yourself. Where Willow’s concerned, she still has a lot to learn. I don’t think she’s truly figured out who she is or maybe even how she fits into this crazy life she’s living.”
Willow Is Caught Between Two Men Who Control Her Future
ABCWillow currently finds herself caught between two of the most powerful men in Port Charles. Her ex, Michael, holds all the cards when it comes to her being allowed to be an active parent in her children’s lives. This fight has brought out the absolute worst in both of them. Both Willow and Michael are now more than willing to lie about the other to win in court.
Then there is Drew, who lies to Willow at every turn to control her. His hatred of Michael may be bigger than his love for Willow. She is currently accused of pumping two bullets into Drew’s back, and you get the feeling that even if she did it, he would still blame Michael.
Katelyn explains, “One of her biggest challenges is knowing who to trust. Every time she thinks she’s putting her faith into someone worthy, they disappoint her. Michael, Drew, Nina… It’s a pretty long list!”
