Wes Ramsey Talks ‘General Hospital’ Return: ‘I’m Always Game’

“General Hospital” fans had plenty to say after a major character’s return during the January 23rd episode. Wes Ramsey is back as Peter August, at least in Anna Devane’s (Finola Hughes) mind.

What do soap fans have to say about Ramsey’s return, and what’s the future hold for Peter on “General Hospital”?

The character of Peter has always brought out passionate opinions among “General Hospital” fans. This latest appearance was no different. Some viewers loved seeing him back, and others made it clear they did not. The actor relished the opportunity to return, and he is open to doing more.

Ramsey’s scenes during the January 23 show may have been all that the show planned for now. However, that doesn’t mean Peter is necessarily gone for good. “I’m always open to anything that comes along in the future,” the actor suggested.

Wes Ramsey Was Pleasantly Surprised to Be Asked Back to ‘General Hospital’

As Soap Opera Digest broke down, Ramsey’s return came when Anna awoke to a vision of a dead Peter.

Ramsey portrayed Peter from 2017 to 2022, torturing Maxie (Kirsten Storms) and others in Port Charles for years. Felicia (Kristina Wagner) ultimately killed him to save Maxie.

Anna was by Felicia’s side as Peter died. Now, the subconscious guilt she has kept hidden away is surfacing.

On January 23, TV Insider shared what Ramsey had to say about his return to “General Hospital.” Ramsey admitted that his return to “General Hospital” was “a surprise, and it was also a pleasant surprise.”

He explained that it was “Not something that I was anticipating, but certainly I was ready to step back into that world and do what I could to help out my old friends.”

After the episode, one “General Hospital” fan shared on Instagram, “It was a treat to see Wes albeit briefly, back on GH.”

Another raved, “I loved seeing him today!”

On the other hand, someone else admitted, “I hope he’s not staying too long.”

“Hopefully it’s a short run,” a Facebook commenter wrote about Ramsey’s return.

Ramsey Felt Right at Home on the ‘General Hospital’ Set

Ramsey noted that he didn’t know exactly what was planned for Peter when he was first asked to return to “General Hospital.” Despite that, he didn’t have any trouble stepping back into the character’s mindset.

“Peter August is the longest I’ve ever played a character, so for me it felt like putting on one of my old favorite suits or jackets that just was perfectly broken in and comfortable and felt very good to wear again,” Ramsey shared.

He continued, “I knew it would be exciting and fun. Ramsey noted, “The moment I got the material, it all just instantly came right back to life for me. Like riding a bike, it’s something you never forget when you’ve done it for so long.”

Ramsey said it was “wonderful to see all my old friends and to shake hands and hug crew members, other actors, and people I hadn’t seen or crossed paths with in many years.”

As he got back into character, Ramsey found the experiences were “triggering a tidal wave of very happy memories.”

The actor agreed to return before he saw the scripts, but Ramsey was pleased with what the writers developed. “The essence of Peter was not only there, but I thought it was beautifully written dialogue that was almost poetic, which I thought suited how we may remember Peter.”

“I enjoyed that, and it made it very rich to wrap myself around the words that they gave me to say,” he added.

He noted, “One of those things I’ve always loved about daytime television is when they joke about saying, ‘Never say never.'”

“Peter was certainly a controversial figure in the world of GH lore,” Ramsey added. Should “General Hospital” want him back, Ramsey insists, “I’m always game to come and play with my friends.”
