Her Grandma Helped With Her Love of ‘Survivor’
Sophi’s love of “Survivor” and her wanting to apply to be on the show came because of her late grandmother. So, we have her to thank for Sophi gracing our television this season.
Her grandmother, who was a Cuban immigrant, watched “Survivor,” despite not speaking any English. She actually told Sophi that it helped her to learn some English, she told the Miami New Times.
At seven years old, Sophi started to watch the show with her grandma. Ten years later, her grandma was diagnosed with dementia. That is when Sophi applied to be on the show for the first time.
Sophi’s grandmother passed away in 2020, but Sophi kept applying, and she finally landed a spot in the cast for “Survivor” 49.
Sophi’s Key Moments on ‘Survivor’ 49
A subtle thing, but when the tribes merged, the show found the two different Sophies on one tribe now. Probst decided that Sophi Balerdi would be called Soph and Sophie Segreti would be called Sophie.
A simple thing, but it sounds like Sophi was not impressed. In an Instagram post, she said she would have preferred if they went by “Blue Sophi” and “Yellow Sophie” instead.
Speaking of her grandma, Sophi tried to channel her grandmother while on the show. This was last week when she was trying to decide who to use her advantage on.
Despite thinking her grandma would have told her to take Rizo’s idol, she went with taking Steven’s advantage. He had already used it, so Sophi got nothing out of the deal and left herself open to being eliminated…if Sage and Kristina wouldn’t have flipped on Steven.
