Scott Probst, the brother of “Survivor” host Jeff Probst, has passed away at the age of 58.
The longtime reality TV host’s other brother, Brent Probst, announced the devastating news on Instagram on Monday, May 11, sharing a loving photo of Scott with his dog. “Some sad news, our brother Scott is no longer with us. He was a great brother, son and friend. I will miss him so much ❤️ I’m so sad he is gone,” he wrote.

Scott Probst’s death was announced by his brother, Brent Probst, on Instagram on May 11. He did not share the cause of his death with the Daily Mail, sharing that it “appeared to be health-related.” The outlet added that his death was “not considered suspicious.”
The Daily Mail also reported that Scott was taken to a funeral home in Scottsdale, Arizona, and not brought to the Maricopa County Medical Examiner.
As of this writing, Jeff Probst has yet to make an official statement about his brother’s passing as the family navigates this difficult time.
2. Scott Worked Behind the Scenes of ‘Survivor’
According to People, Jeff, who works as both the host and executive producer of “Survivor,” hired Scott to work behind the scenes of “Survivor,” where he served as both an art assistant and a camera assistant during the show’s early seasons.
A look at his IMDb shows that Scott worked as an art assistant for three episodes between 2006 and 2008. For 25 episodes between 2011 and 2012, he worked as a camera assistant, grip, and video engineer.
3. Scott Also Worked as a Video Game Producer
According to Scott’s IMDb, he also worked as a video game producer, including 2005’s “Medal of Honor: European Assault” and the 2010 action-adventure game “Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight.”
It’s unclear what Scott did after his time on the set of “Survivor.” His brother, Brent, works as a pilot and frequently shares photos from inside the cockpit on Instagram. Meanwhile, Jeff has continued hosting the beloved competition series since its debut in 2000.
4. Scott’s Passing Comes Less Than Two Years After Their Mother’s Death
The Probst family shared the devastating news of the passing of their mother, Barbara Probst, in November 2024. A tribute to Barbara was shown on the 47th season of “Survivor.” She was 85.
“After the episode saw the remaining contestants competing in a reward challenge, negotiating for rice, and a Tribal Council vote that ended with another elimination, a tribute card at the end of the episode read, ‘Dedicated to Barb, the biggest ‘Survivor’ fan of all time. See you on our next adventure,'” Pop Culture reported at the time.
Brent announced his mother’s passing on Instagram, sharing a loving photo of the entire family, including Jeff and Scott.
“My amazing mom Barbara Probst passed away peacefully yesterday in her home. She was the best mom, grandma and just a fantastic person full of love and life,” he wrote. “For the last couple years, she had full-time care for dementia and died one week before her 86th birthday.”

Several former “Survivor” contestants reacted to Brent’s Instagram announcement about Scott’s heartbreaking passing.

Those who knew Scott on a more personal level also expressed their sympathy. “I have been cutting Scott’s hair for the last 8 years, I loved him dearly,I am so sad to hear of his passing. I am sorry for your loss,” a comment read.
“I am so saddened to hear this news. Scott was such a great person. I met him back in 1986 when I lived in Washington and the memories I have of his friendship will last a lifetime,” another comment read.
