Rachel Lindsay is stepping into a new season feeling lighter, freer and firmly focused on herself. The former “Bachelorette” confirmed this week that she has officially finished paying off her ex-husband, Bryan Abasolo, completing the financial terms of their divorce settlement and closing what she has described as one of the most challenging chapters of her life.
Lindsay, 40, shared the update while attending Ray-Ban’s Pre-Grammy celebration on Jan. 28, telling People. that she had just made her final payment to Abasolo and immediately felt a sense of release. The couple finalized their divorce in January 2025, one year after Abasolo filed, and Lindsay was ordered to pay $500,000 as part of the settlement. After credit for prior spousal support payments, she ultimately paid $460,229, with a deadline of Jan. 7, 2026.
Speaking at the event, Lindsay described the moment as emotional and freeing, comparing it to “giving birth” or finally letting go. “We are free. We are happy,” she said, adding that she feels a noticeable glow as she moves forward.
A Clean Slate and a New Focus
With the financial chapter behind her, Lindsay said she is now focused on rebuilding her life on her own terms. She told People that everything she earns moving forward is for herself, giving her space to think about what comes next. She also shared that she is currently writing a book that may explore her marriage and divorce, marking what she has described as a new phase of independence.
Lindsay has been open about the emotional and financial toll of the split. On her podcast, “Higher Learning with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsay,” she admitted she made legal concessions she did not want to make but ultimately felt the peace of mind was worth it. As she enters her 40s, Lindsay has made it clear she is focused on moving forward, embracing being single and proud of the life she is building now.
Lessons Learned and a Shift in Perspective

As Lindsay moves on, she has also been open about the lessons she is taking with her. She has said the experience completely changed her perspective on marriage and finances, especially when it comes to prenuptial agreements.
Lindsay previously revealed that she asked for a prenup before marrying Abasolo in 2019 but ultimately agreed not to move forward after he opposed the idea, according to People. She later reflected on regretting that decision, noting that emotional factors played a role and that it is difficult to make those choices when you are in love.
During a June 2024 appearance on Natasha Parker’s “Hidden Gems” podcast, Lindsay encouraged couples to view prenups as practical rather than unromantic, emphasizing that people change over time and that the person you marry is not always the person you divorce..
Now, with the divorce fully behind her, Lindsay is embracing what comes next with clarity and confidence. As she put it, “My peace of mind is priceless, and now I can finally move forward.”
