A nostalgic “General Hospital” throwback recently had longtime fans reminiscing about one of the soap’s most memorable births. However, while many viewers fondly remembered the dramatic arrival of Lulu Spencer, others couldn’t help but focus on something entirely different: just how old the character is supposed to be today. Read on to see why the classic scene sparked an unexpected debate among fans.
‘General Hospital’ Stars Look Back at Lulu Spencer’s Birth
“GH” stars Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson recently took to their Stone Cold and the Jackal social media pages to share another “On This Day in General Hospital History” post.
The duo looked back at a memorable 1994 episode that featured Lulu Spencer’s dramatic arrival into the world.
“Having been menaced by two thugs, locked in her home’s basement, and taken a tumble down a staircase, a bruised and battered and heavily pregnant Laura was rushed to General Hospital where daughter Lulu was delivered via Caesarean,” the post read.
Lulu has since become one of Port Charles’ most recognizable legacy characters, growing up before viewers’ eyes over the past three decades.
Following her birth, Lulu was portrayed by several child actors before Julie Marie Berman took over the role in 2005. Berman portrayed the character until 2013, when Emme Rylan stepped into the role. Rylan remained as Lulu through 2020 before the character was temporarily written off the canvas. In 2024, Alexa Havins Bruening assumed the role after Lulu awoke from a four-year coma and returned to Port Charles.
The nostalgic post quickly sparked memories among longtime viewers.
Fans Fondly Remember One of ‘General Hospital’s’ Classic Storylines
Many “General Hospital” fans immediately recalled watching the emotional storyline when it originally aired.
“I remember that!!!” one longtime viewer commented.
Another admitted the throwback reminded them of a different era for the soap.
“When it was centered around the actual hospital!” the fan wrote.
Others praised the storyline itself.
“Cool history moment. Love it,” one viewer commented.
Another wrote, “One of my favorite scenes… the script, the emotion, the actors…”
Some fans were simply grateful for the trip down memory lane.
“I had forgotten this. Thanks for reminding us,” one longtime viewer commented.
Fans Couldn’t Stop Joking About Lulu’s Soap Opera Age
While many viewers enjoyed revisiting Lulu’s birth, others couldn’t resist poking fun at one of daytime television’s oldest traditions: rapid soap opera aging.
“So Lulu is supposed to be 32. Got it,” one fan joked.
Another pointed out, “Lulu is technically 32… and now 42.”
Some viewers also compared the character’s age to that of the actress now portraying her.
“Alexa Havins, who plays Lulu, is 45. Thirteen years older than what age Lulu should be,” one fan noted.
Others laughed at how quickly children seem to age in soap operas.
“Cripes, that means Lulu is only 32. How can she have kids almost done with high school? Kids age in dog years, and then everyone is in their 40s for two or three decades,” one viewer joked.
Another summed up the phenomenon by writing, “All kids age 10 years for every year on a soap.”
One fan even took the opportunity to wish the character a happy birthday.
“I know the story started on the 7th, but Lulu’s birthday is the 8th. Happy birthday, Lesley Lu Spencer!”
Whether fans were reliving one of “General Hospital’s” most memorable storylines or laughing about the quirks of soap opera timelines, one thing was clear: more than 30 years after her dramatic birth, the character is still giving “GH” fans plenty to talk about.
