King Charles’s Former Country Estate Is Selling for $6 Million — But Includes an Unusual Royal Rule!

Back when King Charles was still Prince Charles, he owned a stunning country estate in Dartmoor, Devon, which is found in the U.K. Now, the royal-worthy home is selling for $6 million. While it’s undoubtedly an attractive property, it also comes with an unusual rule that could result in the king showing up for a specific reason.

“This Edwardian country estate with nearly nine acres and a private riverbank is now on the market, and it comes with a rare royal catch 👑,” according to IG Mansions. “Once owned by King Charles III, the sale includes a provision that His Majesty could show up to fish from your stretch of river with 24 hours’ notice…”

Granted, IG Mansions notes that it’s “a right he has yet to use.”

The Interior of the Main House is Stunning

Take a look at the pictures included in the IG Mansions post (above), and you’ll see that the interior of the main house blends charming older details with attractive modern additions.

Along with the “extensively restored Arts and Crafts main house,” the property — which is called Brimptsmead Estate — also boasts “two substantial cottages, a granite built party barn, extensive garaging and private fishing rights along the East Dart River,” according to the listing from By Design Homes.

“Originally commissioned as a private hunting lodge in 1906,” per the listing, the estate “today stands as a carefully restored country residence offering privacy, permanence and exceptional craftsmanship within one of the most protected landscapes in the United Kingdom.”

The Estate Boasts ‘One of the Rarest Forms of Ownership’ in the Area

“Set within the very heart of Dartmoor National Park,” according to the listing, the estate “enjoy[s] complete seclusion with no public rights of way crossing the land,” which “is one of the rarest forms of ownership on Dartmoor: privately held freehold land with direct moor access and private river frontage.”

Featuring “a long tree-lined driveway,” per the listing, “Brimptsmead enjoys a private, south-facing position” while the “immediate outlook is across open moorland.”

By Design Homes also notes that “[t]he grounds include established lawns, ancient woodland, meadow and a gently sloping grass field with direct access onto neighbouring Duchy farmland.” Beyond that, “[f]ootpaths lead down through woodland to the River, where the estate benefits from private frontage and fishing rights for two rods. The riverbank offers seclusion and direct engagement with the surrounding landscape.”
