Co-host of “The View,” Alyssa Farah Griffin, welcomed son Justin Patrick Griffin Jr. on February 10 with her husband, Justin Griffin.
In a podcast episode from “Behind the Table” on Monday, May 4, Alyssa opened up about an unexpected — and emergency surgery — her 2-month-old son underwent during the weekend prior, landing him in the ICU (intensive care unit).
The 36-year-old shared that Justin Jr. underwent a “major operation” that she kept private from many of her loved ones, noting that she has been “going through the motions.”
Alyssa Farah Griffin’s Son Undergoes ‘Major Operation’
“My son ended up needing a major operation. I’m actually not going to get into the details only because I will just turn into a puddle talking about it, but he had to get a surgery this weekend,” Alyssa said. “So we spent the weekend in the ICU with him.”
Fortunately, Alyssa and Justin’s son is on the mend, according to doctors, who assured the newscaster that Justin Jr. is doing “better than expected.”
“And thank the Lord, it went beyond well. The doctor said he’s doing even better than expected, hitting every milestone. He’s going to be great,” Alyssa said. “He’ll never know in his life other than that we told him that he had this. There’ll never be signs or anything.”
Alyssa noted that seeing and experiencing her baby’s medical emergency was the “hardest thing” she has gone through in life, noting that she loves her boy with “every fiber” of her soul.
“So to watch a baby be helpless but also have to entrust him into someone else’s hands was like…it took every amount of strength that I have just to get through it all,” she added.
During the podcast, Alyssa spoke about the importance of marrying someone who you know will be by your side no matter what — willing and able.
She shared that apart from learning how important it is to have a trusted companion by your side during life’s trials, the hard work her son’s medical team put into their efforts to save and restore his body was something she won’t ever take for granted, noting that she was “in awe” of the doctors.
Alyssa Farah Griffin’s Son Shows Signs of Improvement
Alyssa shared that within hours after Justin Jr.’s surgery, he was already exhibiting a strong sense of improvement.
“He’s better, literally less than 24 hours, 12 hours after the surgery,” she said. “He’s smiling, flirting with the nurses. He’s totally his father’s son.”
“I came in at 3 in the morning. I’d gotten up from the little cot my husband and I were sleeping on together, go to the bathroom, and come back, and he saw. He caught my eyes because he was awake and he giggled, and I was like, ‘It’s the happiest moment of my life,'” Griffin continued of how grateful she is to have her son’s renewed health. “He’s ok, he recognizes momma. And so I mean he’s really just a little baby right now. He’s not even 3 months yet.”
