Actors Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together for more than 40 years, and while they’ve never married, they’ve built a loving partnership that continues to stand out as one of Hollywood’s most enduring and supportive relationships.
While promoting her upcoming children’s book, “The After-School Kindness Crew: Pooch on the Loose,” Hawn opened up to the women of “The View” about the secret to her long-lasting relationship with Russell, which includes a special morning routine.

GettyA guest on “The View,” actress Goldie Hawn was asked the secret to her 43-year partnership with Kurt Russell. Joking that she had to keep that secret “PG,” Hawn shared, “I think it’s actually, believe it or not, Kurt’s very romantic.”
She continued, “He’s just kind. He wakes up in the morning, he’s always happy. He’s always been happy when he wakes up.”
“I worry a little bit after the second cup of coffee because he goes crazy about certain things, but other than that, he always gets my coffee in the morning, and he’s really happy to do it: ‘Oh, it’s time for Mommy’s coffee!'” Hawn added.
Both Hawn and Russell have been asked countless times to share their secret to their long-lasting relationship, and they’ve never shied away from answering. In fact, some of their responses have been refreshingly candid and anything but PG-rated.
“Because I have respect for him, because I think he’s an amazing person,” she shared on “The Dan Buettner” podcast. “I’m also very sexually attracted to him, and that’s important.”
“He is the person that makes me laugh and he’s so smart. He’s such a great actor. And I find him incredibly handsome to this day,” she added.
Hawn Shares Why She & Russell Never Wed
GettyHawn and Russell have also been asked numerous times why they have never gotten married. Back in 2007, Hawn shared with Women’s Day that they “have done just perfectly without marrying.”
“I already feel devoted and isn’t that what marriage is supposed to do? So as long as my emotional state is in a state of devotion, honesty, caring and loving, then we’re fine,” she said.
Hawn continued, “We both have independent finances, we’re both independently well-off. We have raised our children brilliantly; they are beautiful people. We did a great job there and we didn’t have to get married to do that. I like waking up every day and seeing that he is there and knowing that I have a choice. There is really no reason to marry.”
While appearing on CNN’s “Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?” in 2023, Hawn went into further detail about why she and Russell never married, explaining that, in her view, divorces can often become “ugly” and emotionally difficult for everyone involved. (Hawn has been divorced twice before dating Russell, while Russell has also experienced a divorce from his first marriage).
“When it doesn’t work out, it ends up to be big business. It’s always ugly. Somebody actually has to take a look and say, ‘How many divorces actually are fun? How many divorces actually don’t cost money? How many divorces actually make you hate the person more than you did before? How many divorces have hurt children?’” She said.
Hawn also added that both she and Russell like their independence. “I like the idea that I can wake up in the morning and make decisions every day if I want to be here.” She continued, “So I think ultimately staying independent with independent thinking is important, so you can hold on to yourself, and you can actually have that feeling.”
