Former ‘The View’ Cohost Reveals Whether She Will Ever Return More Than a Decade Later

Former “The View” host Jenny McCarthy revealed whether she will ever return to the show after more than a decade since her exit.

Would Jenny McCarthy Return to ‘The View’?

McCarthy opened up about her time on “The View” during the Tuesday, January 6, episode of “The Katie Miller” podcast.

“They’ve asked me to come back for, like, reunion shows,” she said, in a preview clip obtained by Us Weekly. “I was like, over my dead body would I ever step foot in that place.”

McCarthy’s one-season stint on air alongside cohosts Barbara Walters, Whoopi Goldberg and Sherri Shepherd came after Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck’s exit following season 16.

According to the former model, she was brought on because the show was “too polarizing” at the time, and producers wanted her to keep things “light and fluffy and fun.”

She recalled being asked to “review people on ‘Dancing With the Stars‘ [and] talk about ‘The Bachelor.'” However, that all changed just one week into her cohosting role.

“Well, that lasted a week,” she recalled the Katie Miller. “Back then, I didn’t consider myself to be a political person, which is why I thought I was perfect for the job. After week one, when they said they wanted it political, I was like, ‘Oh, my God. What am I going to do?”

McCarthy noted, “Getting through that year was really difficult.”

In June 2014, Shepherd announced her emotional exit from the long-running talk show.

“It’s been seven wonderful years on The View and after careful consideration it is time for me to move on,” Shepherd said in a statement to Entertainment Tonight.

McCarthy responded to Shepherd’s departure via social media at the time.

“If Sherri goes…I go too,” she tweeted, seemingly hinting at her exit.

TMZ later reported that both women had been fired from the daytime series, along with executive producer Bill Geddie.

“‘The View’ will be moving in an exciting new direction next season and ABC has made decisions to evolve the show creatively,” the network announced, according to Huffington Post.

Walters and Goldberg were ultimately joined by Rosie O’Donnell, Nicolle Wallace, Raven-Symoné, and Rosie Perez for Season 18.

“They let all of us go,” McCarthy recalled during a July 2025 appearance on SiriusXM’s “Radio Andy” with Andy Cohen. “What wound up happening was they came into the offices and Sherri came crying into my dressing room saying, ‘I was just let go.'”

“Then I get the phone call. I was like last to get the phone call from my agent. He’s like, ‘You’re next.’ I’m like, ‘Thank God.’ It was a massacre,” McCarthy said. “They got rid of a bunch of people.”
