Meghan McCain is mourning the sudden passing of her brother, Doug McCain.

The former “The View” co-host shared the heartbreaking news with fans in an emotional social media statement posted on Saturday, May 23.

Meghan Remembers Her Brother

Alongside several photos of her brother, Meghan honored Doug’s memory while expressing support for his loved ones.

“I am deeply saddened to share the news of my brother Doug McCain’s sudden passing,” Meghan wrote. “He was a truly wonderful, joyful man who supported me throughout my life. He brought humor, fun and great conversation to every room. I will cherish our memories together. Our prayers are with his wife Ashley and children Caroline and Shepp.”

She also shared the same message on X, formerly known as Twitter, as tributes quickly poured in from friends, colleagues and supporters.

The following day, Sunday, May 24, Meghan posted a black-and-white family photograph, continuing to remember her late brother publicly during what appears to be an incredibly painful time for the family.

Friends and Fans Express Their Condolences

Many of Meghan’s friends and followers quickly offered words of sympathy.

Harris Faulkner commented, “Heartbroken to learn that your beloved brother has passed away. Heaven has gained an amazing angel. All our love and prayers to you and your family, Harris, Tony, Bella and Danika.”

Others added messages of support, writing, “So sorry love you,” and “I am so sorry for your loss. Meghan! May he rest in peace.”

Another supporter wrote, “I’m so very sorry for your loss. Very beautiful family,” while others simply shared condolences with the grieving family.

According to his funeral home obituary, Doug McCain died on Wednesday. No cause of death has been publicly disclosed. He was 66 years old.

The obituary painted a picture of a man remembered for his humor, intelligence and devotion to family and friends.

“Doug could always be counted on to tell you what he knew and, more often than not, explain why he was right,” the tribute read. “He secretly loved his ‘World Book’ nickname and hated that Google eventually put him out of business.”

The obituary also noted Doug’s love of golf and highlighted his impressive family bragging rights, sharing that he proudly held the McCain family record for three holes-in-one.

“Doug will be remembered for his generous heart, his loyal friendships, and his unwavering love for his family,” the obituary continued. “He will be dearly missed by those close to him.”

John McCain Had 7 Kids

Doug was part of the well-known McCain political family.

He was the eldest son of John McCain’s first wife, Carol McCain, from a previous marriage.

After marrying Carol in 1965, John adopted Doug and his brother, Andrew, raising them alongside daughter Sidney.

The family later expanded after John married Cindy McCain and had Meghan, Jack, James and Bridget.

Doug previously reflected on those family dynamics during an HBO documentary about the McCain family, according to Us Weekly.

“It was just different, it took some time getting used to,” he recalled. “I have a good relationship with Cindy, as do my brother and sister. And I have a good relationship with Meghan, Jack, Jimmy and Bridget. We’re not extraordinarily close, but if I ever need something, I know how to reach them.”

Now, Meghan and her family are remembering Doug as a beloved brother, father and grandfather whose sudden passing has left a profound loss.
