Whoopi Goldberg is remembering Rob Reiner as a creative force, a generous collaborator, and a deeply loyal friend following the filmmaker and actor’s death.
The longtime entertainer paid tribute on the Monday, December 15 episode of “The View,” reflecting on Reiner’s lasting impact not just on Hollywood, but on the people who knew him personally.
“There was so much tragedy this weekend,” she began. She added how it is “hard to process” what occurred.
Goldberg was visibly upset as she talked about Reiner.
“Rob became a star in the iconic sitcom ‘All In The Family,’” Goldberg said, “and went on to direct beloved movies like ‘This Is Spinal Tap,’ ‘The Princess Bride, ‘A Few Good Men,’ ‘When Harry Met Sally…,’ and I was lucky enough to get directed by him in ‘Ghosts of Mississippi.’ He was also an outspoken activist and quite a guy, quite an amazing man.”
Her co-host, Sunny Hostin, later asked Goldberg if there was anything she wanted to share about Reiner. “He was a friend,” she simply said.
She added that the last time she saw Reiner was at the Kennedy Center Honors, where they celebrated mutual friend Billy Crystal, as he received the Mark Twain Award.
“We were together quite a bit, and he was a wonderful director,” she added.
