Mandy Patinkin & Patti LuPone Remember Rob Reiner in Emotional Statements on ‘The View’

Following the tragic deaths on Sunday of both Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, Mandy Patinkin and Patti LuPone have discussed their memories of the late filmmaker and actor, who died on December 14, and recalled what it was like working with him. The pair appeared on “The View” to promote their murder mystery television series “The Artist.”

Mandy Patinkin and Patti LaPone Talk About Rob Reiner

In Thursday’s episode of “The View” LuPone and Patinkin appeared and discussed Reiner, a close friend of the pair.

During the emotional segment, the two actors shared their memories of the filmmaker. Patinkin had worked with Reiner on “The Princess Bride,” where he portrayed Inigo Montoya, while LuPone played Avis Amberg in the 2020 miniseries “Hollywood,” with Reiner acting as her husband in a guest role.

When asked about Reiner, Patinkin said, “Well, you know I was told you were gonna ask me something about this and I said ‘there’s endless stories.’ And then the one I remembered most we were going on a bus up the English countryside near Sheffield where we shot the castle and other things and Rob and Billy [Crystal] were in front of me and Chris Guest was next to me.”

He continued, “The three of them remember every single thing that happened in baseball when they were four, five, six, seven years old, and they were going over every play, every innings, and every game. They were best friends.”

“And I just couldn’t say a word. My jaw dropped. The friendship was just extraordinary and was so beautiful that I never forgot that moment. It was the glue of their existence.”

Meanwhile, LuPone revealed how generous and funny Reiner was to her on set.

Holding back tears, she said, “On our rides back from location, he sang every ’60s song. He knew all of the lyrics. It’s just so hard to believe.”

Rob Reiner’s Final Film Delayed Indefinitely

The latest in an outpouring of tributes to Rob Reiner comes after news broke that his final directorial effort has been delayed indefinitely.

While the filmmaker acts as executive producer on the upcoming sequel to the 2017 thriller “Wind River,” it is the follow-up concert film to “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues” that many will likely consider to be Rob’s final posthumous release.

“Spinal Tap at Stonehenge: The Final Finale” is a film that captures the live performance of the fictional band at the British historical site, featuring the likes of Eric Clapton and Shania Twain performing alongside Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer.

Independent film company Bleecker Street, who purchased the distribution rights to the movie, have said that a release has been put on hold until “the best path forward is decided with those closest to Rob and his family.”
