Knockouts Begin
The Knockouts start, as we have CeeLo Green serving as Mega Mentor for Team Legend and Team Adam. Then, Michael Bublé is the Mega Mentor for Team Kelly. Then we will have the All-Star Showdown, in which each coach is bringing back artists to compete this round. CeeLo will pick the winners of those head-to-head matchups.
Team Legend – Lucas West vs. Moses G.
John said they are in the same wheelhouse, so that is why they paired him. For this round, Moses G. will be signing ” ” by Marvin Gaye. John said Moses has gotten better each time he has heard him. They told him to learn how to control the stage with his physical energy. For Lucas, he’ll be performing “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel. They want him to lose himself in the piano and lyrics. Be rough like Billy Joel and a New York resident.
Moses G. – Moses really owned that stage tonight. His vocals were on-point and he felt those lyrics. He made us feel those lyrics. He was so strong, and this was so, so good. Moses has such a strong stage presence.
Lucas West – You think Moses nails it, then Lucas comes out, and his voice is so good. It has a different tone and sound to it, but he makes it work. He hits those big notes and is having a good time up there. Lucas is definitely a strong vocalist.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said Moses, you can’t do that song unless you do it the way you did. Lucas just keeps getting better. Kelly said Moses just makes her happy. Lucas, you just made Billy Joel proud. John said he was so impressed with both of their performances. Moses has a beautiful energy. Lucas, we saw new things from you today vocally.
Results – The winner is Lucas West, which means Moses G. has been eliminated.
Team Kelly – Houston Kelly vs. JW Griffin
Michael Buble wants a cape for being a Mega Mentor. Kelly has paired these two up, being the country fellas on her team. This is the first time that they are technically working with Kelly. For Houston, he will be singing “Love You Anyway” by Luke Combs. Houston said he looks up to Luke, and how he handles his family is how his dad was with his family. They want him to feel the lyrics and enunciate the words more. For JW, he is singing “If It Hadn’t Been For Love” by The SteelDrivers. Kelly said his voice is so cool and so effortless. I love seeing Kelly work with these artists and the band and get right in there.
JW Griffin – He is definitely a strong country singer. His voice just screams country. This song is a perfect choice for him, as it seems bluesy, but has that country twang in there. This was a very solid performance on “The Voice” season 29.
Houston Kelly – I can’t believe this guy is 20 years old! He looks older. For this one, I think he has a strong country voice, also. It starts very slow though. However, it kicked in eventually, and he had some big moments along the way.
Coaches’ Feedback: John said they both did a great job. Adam said there is a sense of joy in Houston. He said he is a fan of JW. They both did a great job. Kelly said that from rehearsals, they both did things they didn’t want to. They are fearless, and that’s the great thing about working with artists like them.
Results: Kelly picks JW as the winner, which means Houston is eliminated.
Team Adam – Alexia Jayy vs. Bay Simpson
We have two OG coaches, as CeeLo Green is working with Team Adam this season. For her performance, Alexia Jayy is singing “You Give Good Love” by Whitney Houston. Adam said it’s normally bold to do a Whitney song, but it’s in great hands with Alexia. They want her to just settle into the song right away. For Bay, he is singing “One Headlight” by The Wallflowers. They said he looks good, sounds good, and pulls it off. Adam said he understands rock and roll music.
Alexia Jayy – She is bringing that look tonight. She looks beautiful and fierce for this performance. Her voice starts so strong and pulls you in right away. Alexia just hits all the notes, and her range is crazy. I love the tone of her voice.
Bay Simpson – He won me over this past round. However, this one was lacking for me. I think he was just singing, but nothing felt behind it.
Coaches’ Feedback: Kelly said congratulations to you both. She said Bay is so underrated. He’s so cool because he doesn’t try to be cool. Kelly said Alexia is so good. John said there is this cool factor about Bay, and music is in him. It’s super cool and weird in all the right ways. John said the choices Alexia is making are all working. Adam said they are both comfortable in their skin.
Results: No shocker here, as Adam picks Alexia as the winner. That means Bay has been eliminated.
Team Kelly – Abigayle Oakley vs. Liv Ciara
For Abigayle, she is singing “Feather” by Sabrina Carpenter. Michael said she has a sweet tone, kind of angelic. Kelly said she is good at flipping songs. For Liv, she sings “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson. She picks a Kelly song? Michael said if she’s this good at 16, then just imagine as she gets older.
Liv Ciara – Liv is up first, and they slowed this song down. She definitely hits those big notes along the way. It is crazy to think she is just 16 years old. Such a powerhouse voice. And that note towards the end? Insane!
Abigayle Oakley – For Abigayle, I think she has that great singer-songwriter type of voice. However, maybe it’s this song choice, but it didn’t work for me. This is a popular song choice, and she just sounded too much like it for me.
Coaches’ Feedback: John said Abigayle executed that song well. Liv was very effective. Adam said Abigayle had him understanding the lyrics. Kelly said Sabrina is difficult in any voice, and it was perfectly executed. She said what is exciting is that she made her song a showstopper.
Results: Kelly loved what she did with her own song. Because of that, she picks Liv Ciara as the winner. That means Abigayle has been eliminated.
Team Legend – Natasha Blaine vs. Syd Millevoi
For Natasha, she will sing “Another Sad Love Song” by Toni Braxton. They wanted her to be more sultry with the song. For Syd Millevoi, she will sing “Tell Me You Love Me” by Demi Lovato. CeeLo is so impressed. John said the challenge is how she handles this song. John said they are different types of singers, but they can both win this one.
Syd Millevoi – During rehearsals, I was worried. It just sounded off to me. However, her performance comes out, and she nails it. She has such vocals. That grit she gets with some notes is amazing. She has such a great range and can hit huge notes.
Natasha Blaine – I think Natasha has a good voice. She has a good tone, and I enjoy it. However, I think she didn’t have a chance with this one after Syd just killed it.
Coaches’ Feedback: Adam said they both did great. He thought Natasha improved so much on this one. Kelly said she loves the sound of Natasha, and Syd has the voice for an arena like this. John said he liked the stylistic choices that Natasha made. Syd needs to work on making the audience believe who she is as an artist.
Feedback: The winner of this Knockout on “The Voice” season 29 is Syd, which means Natasha has been eliminated!
Team Adam – Jeremy Keith vs. Mike Steele
These two seem very even. It seems like it will all come down to how they perform the actual song on that stage. Open up more. Mike is Adam’s steal, so he is feeling pressure.
Mike Steele – He sings “How You Gonna Act Like That” by Tyrese. He said he grew up with this song. Yeah, this one started a little slow for me. However, he gained some confidence along the way and nailed those lyrics. He was getting into it as the song went on, and we could feel that.
Jeremy Keith – He sings “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing” by Marvin Gaye. What’s up with Marvin Gaye night? He has a strong voice and a good range. I think his voice is so solid and powerful.
Coaches’ Feedback: Kelly said they are both so phenomenal. John said Jeremy is the better singer. Mike has such swag. Adam said they were both great, and they should both stay. He said Jeremy is ready right now. There is a quality in Mike’s voice that he likes.
Results – Adam struggles, but he picks Jeremy Keith as the winner. That means Mike has been eliminated.
