Fans Have Intense Reactions to Trailer for New Season of ‘The Voice’ (VIDEO)

Fans of “The Voice” just got their first look at the new “Battle of the Champions” season, which NBC has dubbed “a whole new game.” And the swift reactions on social media were intense.

On February 2, 2026, the network dropped its first trailer for season 29 with footage of the three returning judges — Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend — duking it out from their spinning red chairs and a sneak peek at some of the changes coming to the show on February 23.

New Season 29 Trailer Shows ‘The Voice’ Coaches Already Bickering

For the first time, “The Voice” will feature just three instead of four coaches. Clarkson hasn’t coached since season 23, but Legend and Levine coached together on season 27.

The new trailer is a high-energy, neon mash-up of all the action fans can look forward to, with Legend declaring, “It’s the battle of champions for a reason.”

Levine is seen exclaiming, “I’m the first coach ever to win the show,” but is countered by Clarkson, who shouts, “But I have won the most!”

The new promo shows victory banners hanging above the audience, showcasing the three coaches’ past wins. Levine has won three times — season one with Javiar Colon, season five with Tessanne Chin, and season nine with Jordan Smith. Clarkson has won four times — season 14 with Brynn Cartelli, season 15 with Chevel Shepherd, season 17 with Jake Hoot, and season 21 with Girl Named Tom. Legend, who will mark his 11th season coaching “The Voice,” won his first season in 2019 — season 16 with Maelyn Jarmon.

After the Blind Auditions, each coach will have 10 artists on their teams. While the rounds will be familiar — Battles, Knockouts, semi-finals and finals — there are lots of twists coming, including original coach CeeLo Green overseeing a special competition between some of the show’s most popular past contestants.

Fans Have A Lot to Say About New Promo for ‘The Voice’ Season 29

Fans flooded social media with excitement about the new format and three beloved coaches, including one who wrote on YouTube, “Did I (hear) coach’s Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson and John legend returning, this bouta be lit. The m watching every bit of it once it premiere on feb 23!!!”

Countless fans expressed how thrilled they were about the return of Clarkson, who announced hours after the trailer dropped that she’s leaving her talk show after seven seasons.

One exclaimed on Instagram, “Omg, so excited! I absolutely love @kellyclarkson Welcome back! ❤️” while another chimed in, “Will definitely watch now that Kelly is back for this season ☺️❤️”

Others were thrilled to see familiar faces, as the trailer included footage of returning artists they loved in previous seasons, from Girl Named Tom to Renzo.

One wrote, “Omg I instantly (smiled) when I saw Javier calon is back!!! Ahh the memories!” while another commented, “Omg, Jordan, Maelyn and Girl Named Tom, that will be insane!!”

Many fans also expressed how upset they are that Blake Shelton isn’t part of the new season, given that he’s the winningest coach in the show’s history. But while the first rounds of the “Battle of Champions” were being filmed in the summer of 2025, Shelton was busy filming his new CBS competition show, “The Road.”

“The Voice: Battle of Champions” premieres on NBC on February 23 at 8 p.m. Eastern time.
