Blake Shelton Taps Country Stars for New Show “The Road”

Blake Shelton is adding some serious star power to his upcoming reality singing competition series, “The Road.”

The former coach on “The Voice” has reportedly recruited country artists Dustin Lynch, Karen Fairchild of the band Little Big Town, Jordan Davis and Brothers Osborne to join the CBS series.

According to Deadline, the singers will play the role of guest mentors for the show’s 12 contestants fighting for the chance to take home a quarter-of-a-million-dollar payday and a record deal.

“We’ve all been in that position of opening for somebody, walking out and facing a crowd that doesn’t care who we are,” Shelton told reporters when announcing the guest mentors.

“We’ve got to try to grab them in that minimal amount of time we are given. That’s what makes this show so unique. This is the real world. This is what really happens. Watching all these musicians night after night, having to choose a song, cover a song and perform an original song. And to make these decisions on how to connect with this audience night after night and have the audience vote and get them through to the next night. That’s a real world truth right there about being an artist on the road.”

Blake Shelton Says Touring is ‘Hard to Get Right’

The new CBS singing competition will put competitors to the test as they perform as Keith Urban’s opening act on tour.

Blake Shelton serves as one of the executive producers, combining his experience in both music and competition shows as one of the masterminds of “The Road.”

In  sneak peek trailer dropped by “The Road’s” Instagram account, Blake explains the idea behind the twist of taking the competition cross-country. “Touring is hard to get right. When you do, it is the greatest feeling in the world.”

It’s also real-world experience for the 12 hopefuls competing to make it big in country music.

“There is not a musician in Nashville that wouldn’t want the opportunity to have the stage before a superstar like Keith Urban,” says the “God’s Country” singer. “They’re going to show people what these artists go through.”

But Blake won’t just be behind-the-scenes. You can expect to see him on camera in the show. The sneak peek shows the singer in the audience cheering on the contestants and playing an active role in mentoring them.

‘The Road’ May Be Coming to a Venue Near You

Fans in six cities can catch some of the competition live, with “The Road’s” ultimate bus tour.

The show was originally on the road last spring, performing at live venues. And audience members not only got in to a Keith Urban concert for free, they got to determine which opening acts make it to the next round.

“The Road” premieres on Oct. 19 at 9:00pm ET on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
