With all the rounds “The Voice” has to offer viewers, it creates endless suspense and sometimes heartbreak because someone seems to be going home every week. Over the 20+ seasons of “The Voice,” we have seen several fan favorites and powerhouse vocalists sent home earlier than anyone expected. 1. Melanie Martinez (Season 3)

Melanie Martinez stood out immediately thanks to her distinctive tone and quirky artistry. During season 3, she built a passionate fan base with unique song arrangements and an unmistakable aesthetic.

Melanie made it into the Top 6, but viewers were stunned when she made it no further. A lot of viewers thought her originality gave her a real shot at the title. Though she didn’t win, Martinez went on to build a massively successful music career.


2. James Wolpert (Season 5)

James Wolpert seemed poised to make the finals during season 5 after delivering one powerful performance after another. His emotional rendition of “With or Without You” became one of the season’s standout moments.

However, he fell short, just one week away from making the Voice Finale. Coaches and fans alike were visibly stunned when his name was announced. It’s a reminder that live voting can be unpredictable, and even frontrunners aren’t safe.


3. Sarah Simmons (Season 4)

Sarah Simmons joined Team Adam for season 4 of “The Voice.” She was one of the most talked-about contestants that season. Her haunting version of “Angel” during the live shows earned her rave reviews, and it quickly climbed the iTunes charts.

However, Sarah was sent home early in the live rounds, and social media erupted. Many viewers considered her to be a likely finalist. Her exit remains one of the earliest examples of a major Voice shocker.


4. Janice Freeman (Season 13)

Janice Freeman was a force to be reckoned with during season 13 of “The Voice. Her backstory and heartfelt performances resonated deeply with both the coaches and viewers at home.

Her elimination during the live shows shocked many fans who thought she had the vocal ability and emotional connection to go all the way. Janice’s exit sparked passionate reactions online. Sadly, Freeman passed away in 2019 from blood clots and lupus.


5. Amanda Brown (Season 3)

Amanda Brown used backup skills for Alicia Keys and Adele to land a spot on a team for season 3 after her Blind Audition singing “Valerie.” She consistently impressed the coaches as the season went along.

That’s why her elimination before the finals caught many off guard. She was viewed as one of the strongest vocalists of her season.
