“Dexter: Resurrection,” the third spin-off of the original Showtime series, premiered in 2025 and quickly became a ratings and critical darling. Now, more than a year later, Paramount+ has confirmed that the Michael C. Hall-led show will return in October 2026. Additonally, the streamer released a short teaser ahead of the premiere.
“Dexter: Resurrection” Returns to Paramount+ On October 30
GettyParamount+’s official social media channels confirmed on September 8 that “Dexter: Resurrection” would return for its second season on October 30. They captioned the announcement, “He’s back and sharper than ever.”
Variety shared the season’s official logline. It states that the second season of the show will find Dexter Morgan “caught between two killers – one notorious and the other terrorizing New York in ways no one ever anticipated – all while battling his greatest enemy yet: a midlife crisis. Harrison continues his own pursuit of justice as father and son face their darkest chapter.”
The returning cast for “Dexter: Resurrection” includes Uma Thurman, Jack Alcott, Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine, Kadia Saraf, Dominic Fumusa, Desmond Harrington and James Remar.
The show’s second season also includes multiple newcomers, including Dan Stevens and Brian Cox in notable roles. Nona Parker Johnson will also be featured as a series regular. Krysten Ritter is also returning to the series as a guest star. Fans will also see Gabriel Luna in a guest-starring role.
The Returning Dexter Morgan Series is a Huge Hit

This followed “Dexter: Original Sin,” a one-season prequel series, and “Dexter: New Blood,” which marked Hall’s return and introduced Morgan’s son, Harrison, who is also featured in “Resurrection.”
Following the premiere, Deadline reported that the series had garnered a massive audience. Specifically, the outlet says the show drew 3.1 million cross-platform viewers. This marked a 46% increase from “Dexter: Original Sin,” which premiered in 2024.
Additonally, the show became Paramount+’s biggest premiere for a Showtime show in the streamer’s history. The streaming audience was up 44% from “Dexter: Original Sin” and 79% higher than “New Blood.” Overall “Dexter” franchise viewership was also up 132% on the streaming platform since the series premiered.
Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, issued a statement about the show’s success. They said, “Dexter: Resurrection delivered an electrifying performance that not only rekindled a fiercely devoted fanbase but also captivated a new generation of viewers — shattering records with Showtime’s most-streamed premiere ever.”
The statement continued, “This triumph underscores the lasting impact of this iconic franchise, brought to life by Michael C. Hall’s unparalleled portrayal and Clyde Phillips’ visionary creative leadership.”
It Was Michael C. Hall’s Idea For Dexter Morgan To Return
GettyWhen “Dexter: New Blood” ended, most fans assumed they’d seen the end of Morgan. However, that changed when “Dexter: Resurrection” was announced as being in development in 2024 at San Diego Comic-Con. While promoting the show, Hall spoke to Vanity Fair and revealed that he wanted the character to return.
He recalled, “I’m the one who posed the initial question of, what if that bullet shot weren’t fatal? What would that look like?” Hall continued, “It brought in a lot of creative collaborators who’ve been a part of the show all along, and started a conversation. But yeah, I’m the guy who posed the question.”
