Taylor Swift Reveals Inside Story of Assembling Stars for ‘Opalite’ Video

If there’s one person we’ve ever wished we could pick their creative brain, it’s probably Taylor Swift. Whether it’s her talent for coming up with song lyrics or memorable videos, or her phenomenal concert performances, we’re always eager to know where the former “The Voice” SuperStar Advisor and Mega Coach gets her inspiration from. In a recent Instagram post, Swift revealed that the surprising “spark” for her “Opalite” music video came from her appearance as a guest on “The Graham Norton Show.”

Domhnall Gleeson’s Joke Sparks Instant Music Video Concept for Taylor Swift

“My favorite part about writing is that first spark of an idea,” Swift began. “It can happen at any time, for any reason.”

She went on to explain that, while she was promoting her newest album, “The Life of A Showgirl,” she appeared on one of her “favorite shows,” “The Graham Norton Show.”

“For those of you who aren’t familiar, it’s a UK late night show where Graham Norton (the insanely charismatic and lovable host) invites a random group of actors, entertainers, musicians, etc to be on his show and we all sit there and chat like it’s a dinner party. They even serve wine,” she explained.

The other guests on her episode were actors Cillian Murphy, Domhnall Gleeson, Greta Lee, and Jodie Turner-Smith, as well as musician Lewis Capaldi. “All people whose work I’ve admired from afar,” she added.

When Gleeson joked that he’d love to be in one of her music videos, she was “instantly struck with an *idea*,” she wrote. “And so a week later he received an email script I’d written for the Opalite video, where he was playing the starring role.”

From School Project Vibes to 90s Fun: Swift Reunited Cast for New Music Video

While Gleeson does star in the video alongside Swift, she couldn’t leave out the other guests. So she invited Murphy, Lee, Turner-Smith, Capaldi, and even Norton to join the video shoot.

“Like a school group project but for adults and it isn’t mandatory,” she likened the eclectic group. “To my delight, everyone from the show made the effort to time travel back to the 90’s with us and help with this video.”

She described the experience as “more fun than I had ever imagined.” Along with her new friends, keen-eyed fans will notice that many of her “Eras Tour” dancers also appeared, including Karen Chuang and Kameron Saunders. Unlike “The Fate of Ophelia,” the official video for “Opalite” is available only on Apple Music or Spotify Premium.
