The much-anticipated Season 29 of “The Voice” will mark the return of four-time champion Kelly Clarkson, three-time champion Adam Levine, and one-time champ John Legend. Ever since NBC announced that the upcoming season would feature a new format and an epic new title, “Battle of Champions,” fans have been impatient to see how the veteran coaches and contestants handle all the new challenges.
What Day & Time Does Season 29 of ‘The Voice’ Premiere?
Season 29 will premiere on Monday, Feb. 23, in less than 4 weeks, NBC has revealed. As usual, it will kick off with a two-hour premiere beginning at 9:00 PM ET/8:00 PM CT. Subsequent episodes will air every Monday night at 9:00 PM ET. For those unable to catch it live, it will stream the following day on Peacock.
Along with the change to a three-Coach lineup will be the return of six past-season alumni of “The Voice.” During the Knockouts, Legend, Levine, and Clarkson will choose two artists from their previous teams to compete in sing-offs for an In-Season All-Star Competition. Longtime viewers will then get another treat, as CeeLo Green, one of the show’s original coaches, will return to choose the sing-off winners. According to NBC, “the Coach with the most sing-off wins will automatically secure at least two Artists in the Finale.”
What Changes Can Fans Expect in the ‘Battle of Champions’?
Viewers won’t have to wait long to see the differences between the “Battle of the Champions” and previous seasons. The first format change will happen during the Blind Auditions, when the coaches compete in a Triple Turn Competition. Whoever gets the most 3-Chair Turns will get a special Super Steal to use during the Battles.
This Super Steal can only be used once, but it gives the coach who earns it a huge advantage in the Battles. The Super Steal tops either coach’s attempt to steal a contestant. Levine is only too familiar with the power of a steal. The Season 6 winner, Josh Kaufman, was originally on his team before Usher stole him.
The other exciting change will affect voting in the Semi-Finals and Finale. While fans will still be able to vote for their favorites, another group will be making their opinions heard. This block will feature past season “The Voice” artists and “super fans” who will be part of the in-studio audience.
These are the changes NBC has already announced. Whether there are any more surprises waiting to be revealed, we’ll have to wait until the season begins on Feb. 23.
