Spencer Pratt Bravely Admits He and Heidi Montag Were ‘Living a Lie’ During Reality TV Fame

“The Hills” alum Spencer Pratt bravely admitted he and wife Heidi Montag were “living a lie” at the height of their reality TV fame.

Spencer Pratt Says He and Heidi Montag Were ‘Living a Lie’

The MTV star sat down with the hosts of “The View,” where he opened up about the lifestyle he and wife Heidi Montag were living at the peak of their fame.

“Initially, it’s all fun because you’re still going to Blockbuster and getting movies and having your date nights. Off camera, we had such a strong relationship that it didn’t faze us,” Pratt said after Sunny Hostin asked how the tabloid headlines affected their relationship during the Wednesday, January 28, episode.

He continued, “But then, as family problems start happening on both sides, and your friends start believing everything they see. Then you start internalizing that and projecting that negativity.”

Pratt—who shares sons Gunner, 8, and Ryker, 3, with his wife—admitted he “lost the plot.

“In that situation, it’s hard to maintain emotional stability when you know you’re living a lie,” he explained. “You’re getting paid to live a lie. But then, you want to keep getting paid to live a lie. And then people are hating you for something you know is fake. But then you start having that energy of, ‘I’m not a good person.’ So it was a hard journey.”

Spencer Pratt Has Dealt With Financial Struggles

Despite living above their means for years, Pratt was open about his financial struggles, but claimed he had a plan for his children’s future. An avid collector of crystals, the reality star told the hosts, most of his money was “invested into crystals.”

“You and Heidi would spend [your money] as soon as it came in. Now that you’re older…what would you tell your kids?” Ana Navarro asked Pratt.

“I literally tell my kids, ‘Do not do what I did with money,'” he laughed. “The problem with our level of fame, since we weren’t movie stars, we weren’t actors, but we were getting that attention of these A-listers. We were paying to make-believe. We were faking it ’til you make it. Which was the problem, but you have to do that to keep that lifestyle going.”

Pratt explained that his crystals had all appreciated in value, and he planned to pass them down as his children’s inheritance.

“They have since all burned down, but they did go up in value,” he added, referring to the devastating Los Angeles fires of January 2025.

Whoopi Goldberg shared a sentimental gift with the mayoral candidate: Faux crystals.

“These are not real, but I want them to inspire you to go back into it,” she told him.

  1. he “bravely admitted”. what a joke. everyone knew Spencer was a douche. everyone knew they were lying, so what he said on the view is not true. He’s making the rounds trying to clean up his image b/c he wants to be mayor. God forbid
