It’s been a rocky start for Amy and Tammy Slaton on “1000-Lb. Sisters.” Season 8 of the TLC series opened with the sisters revealing that they had not spoken for more than two months after Amy missed Tammy’s skin removal surgery, while Amy said she felt bullied by her siblings during the fallout.
As the season unfolds, the Slaton siblings attempt to step in and help mend the rift. But the tense exchanges in the family group chat suggest emotions are still running high, and a resolution may be farther off than anyone hoped.
Amy & Tammy Slaton’s Drama Heats up on ‘1000-Lb. Sisters’
In the Jan. 20 episode of TLC’s “1000-Lb. Sisters,” Chris Combs and Misty Slaton Wentworth address the escalating tension between their siblings, Tammy and Amy Slaton. According to Combs, the conflict had reached an all-time high, with the pair exchanging more than 100 heated text messages after Amy refused to visit Tammy at the animal shelter, which was her very first job.
“At like five o’clock this morning, Tammy and Amy got into it over text message. Amy backed out of going to the animal shelter because she has PPSD over the [expletive] camel bite,” Combs shared to the cameras.
“All I know, I went and checked my phone, and there was 180 messages on it from them two going at it,” he added.
In fact, the show would display the actual text messages between the sisters, and it wasn’t pretty.
It began with Amy, who shared, “Man, I woke up with a panic attack about getting bit by an alpaca. What kinds of animals are gonna be there?” She later added, “I really can’t be around big animals. I got PTSD from the camel.”
That is when Tammy hit back at her sister, writing, “Then [expletive], if you don’t wanna go to the animal shelter then don’t [expletive] go. Grow up. You can go to a [expletive] pet store and get 12 cats but you can’t go to an animal shelter where everything’s in cages.”
And if those messages seemed intense, things only escalated from there. Tammy shifted the conversation to Amy’s upcoming wedding, saying she felt pressured to attend and took aim at Amy’s parenting. The back-and-forth soon devolved into a string of increasingly hurtful remarks to one another.
Tammy & Amy Experience Major Personal Milestones in Season 8
Fans are hopeful that Amy and Tammy can find some kind of resolution before the season wraps, especially as both sisters reach major personal milestones that deserve celebration rather than conflict.
In the new season, Tammy lands her first-ever job, working at an animal shelter where she cleans up after cats and walks dogs. “I’m really nervous because it’s my first real job. I’m also really happy. I’m adulting. That’s what it is.” In a confessional, she reflected on her first day: “I’m proud of myself. It’s time for me to get more independent.”
However, she also wished Amy could experience this with her, sharing, “Working with animals, it’s exciting. And I think something like this could help Amy in many ways. But Amy and I still aren’t talking, so she isn’t willing to experience this with me.”
Meanwhile, Amy is preparing for her upcoming wedding to her fiancé, Brian Lovvorn. However, her family has not exactly been supportive, primarily because of the couple’s venue, wanting to get married in a haunted, insane asylum.
Additionally, the Slaton family is concerned with how fast the couple is moving, with Amy and Brian having been together for approximately five months before the two got engaged, according to Us Weekly.
As the season progresses, there’s hope that a reconciliation between Amy and Tammy may be in sight.
