TLC Launches Two Bold Docuseries: ‘Dangerously Obese’ & ‘About Face’

TLC is known to push the limits when it comes to its reality TV programming. From shows like “My Strange Addiction” to “Dr. Pimple Popper.” The network has received a reputation for showcasing real and raw journeys of people facing extraordinary challenges.

Now, TLC has announced two new docuseries premiering in October that will continue with its theme of following people whose lives are anything but ordinary: “Dangerously Obese” and “About Face.”

TLC’s New Medical Docuseries ‘Dangerously Obese’ Sees a Familiar Face

TLC is known to showcase the lives of those who have navigated hardships with their weight. Some of the network’s most popular programs include “1000-lb Sisters” and “My 600-lb Life.” TLC will continue this trend with its newest medical docuseries, “Dangerously Obese.”

A trailer for the upcoming show highlights people embarking on drastic weight-loss journeys as they confront the realities of living with morbid obesity. All of the individuals will be seeking the help of renowned bariatric surgeon Dr. Charles Procter. Dr. Procter is no stranger to TLC and is a household name, having worked with “1000-lb Sisters” stars Amy Slaton and Tammy Slaton, and appearing on “1000-lb Best Friends.”

In the trailer, Dr. Procter doesn’t hold back as he tells his patients what could possibly happen to them if they do not work towards losing weight. In fact, some of these individuals appear to be more stubborn than others, making his work much more difficult, like one patient who ate before major surgery.

“I’m disappointed because I don’t think you have any idea how unhealthy you are,” he tells one of his patients. “You’re gonna rob your child of his mother.”

In another scene, a woman even gets confronted by her own family member. “You want your kids to bury you? This is a life and death situation.”

By the end of each individual’s episode, fans will get to see their dramatic weight loss.

‘About Face’ Will Spotlight Life-Changing Medical Transformations

According to People, also debuting this October, TLC’s “About Face” will showcase individuals who have “suffered from severe facial deformities, traumatic injuries, and rare conditions, including massive tumors, extensive birthmarks, and disfiguring accidents,” looking for the help of plastic surgeons and experts to see if they can help in facial reconstruction.

At the start of the trailer, a patient shares, “I’ve been called a human dog toy, Frankenstein…” while others also share how their conditions deeply affected their lives. These same individuals will turn to a team of Los Angeles-based doctors who have helped countless patients reclaim their confidence with life-changing surgeries.

“We treat people who are missing major portions of their face, missing jaws, missing ears. The list goes on,” Dr. Jason Roostaeian shares in a confessional.

Viewers will see patients with a variety of conditions, from a large tumor growing on a man’s cheek to a patient who had her “nose and jaw torn out.”

Hopefully, these experts will give their patients the results they are looking for so that they can have a sense of normalcy.

“Dangerously Obese” airs on October 22, while “About Face” will make its debut on October 29.
