Warden Bates first rose to fame as a child on TLC’s “United Bates of America” and later on his family’s second reality TV run on “Bringing Up Bates,” which aired on UpTV from 2015 to 2021. The 13th of Gil and Kelly Jo Bates’ 19 children, Warden is the most recent Bates sibling to tie the knot.
While the Bates family is known for short courtships and quick engagements, Warden and his new bride, Kaybrie, had the shortest engagement in Bates family history. The newlyweds recently took to social media to explain the emotional reason behind their decision to marry just days after Warden popped the question.
Read on to discover why the young couple tied the knot just three days after getting engaged.
Why Warden And Kaybrie Decided To Move Up Their Wedding
The newest Mrs. Bates recently took to Instagram to explain the heartbreaking reason she and Warden moved their wedding plans forward.
Kaybrie Patterson Bates shared a carousel of photos from the special day, including a touching image of herself, Warden, and her father, Michael Patterson.
Kaybrie started out her emotional post, sharing, “I am learning that even in the midst of sorrow, there can be joy. I don’t think I ever truly understood that until recently.”
She continued, adding, “Three years ago, my dad was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, and for three years he fought hard. When we were recently told his liver was failing and treatment was no longer an option, our world changed. And yet, right in the middle of all that heartbreak, one of the happiest moments of my life happened. I got engaged to the love of my life, and we began planning our big wedding celebration for this September.”
Kaybrie went on to explain that as her father’s condition continued to worsen and hospice care became a reality, she struggled with the thought of getting married without him by her side.
She shared, “As my dad continued to decline and we were faced with the reality of hospice care, I came face-to-face with something I had never allowed myself to imagine. I could not picture a life where my dad was not the one to walk me down the aisle. So we decided to gather our immediate families and share a small, private ceremony together while we still could.”
Kaybrie’s Father Walked Her Down The Aisle Just Days Before His Death
After getting engaged on May 2, 2026, Kaybrie and Warden made the decision to hold a private ceremony just three days later so that her father could walk her down the aisle.
The couple exchanged vows on May 5, 2026, surrounded by their immediate families. Just days later, on May 8, Kaybrie’s father passed away.
Reflecting on the experience, Kaybrie wrote, “On May 5th, my dad walked me down the aisle. It was simple, emotional and beautiful in a way I will spend the rest of my life trying to find words for. The next day he became unresponsive, and three days later he went home to be with the Lord.”
She continued, “There are no words for how thankful I am that God gave us that moment before we had to say goodbye. In the middle of so much heartbreak, He still gave us something so beautiful, and I will carry the memory of my dad beside me for the rest of my life.”
Warden And Kaybrie Still Plan To Celebrate Their September Wedding
Warden and Kaybrie first announced their courtship on Instagram on March 17, 2026. Less than two months later, Warden proposed, and the couple made the decision to move forward with a private ceremony so Kaybrie’s father could be part of the milestone.
While the couple already exchanged vows, Kaybrie confirmed that they still plan to celebrate with a larger wedding ceremony in September.
She wrote, “Our wedding celebration this September is something Warden and I have looked so forward to, and it will be even more sacred now than we ever imagined. I will walk that aisle again, knowing what it felt like to have my dad beside me, and hearing his voice in my memory as we begin our new chapter together.”
Kaybrie concluded by asking supporters for their continued prayers as the family navigates both grief and celebration, writing, “We ask for your love and your prayers as we celebrate and grieve and heal all at the same time, and we are so grateful for each and every one of you. God has been so faithful, even here and even in this.”
While the couple’s September celebration will look different from what was originally planned, Kaybrie made it clear that the memory of her father walking her down the aisle is one she will carry with her forever.
