Brian Bird is looking ahead to the future of “When Calls the Heart” as season 13 wraps and production continues on season 14. The co-creator and executive producer shared new insight into what fans can expect next, including a major update on a long-awaited storyline.
Bird, who helped bring the Hallmark series to life, also promoted his upcoming documentary “The Story of Everything,” but confirmed that Hope Valley remains a central focus as the show continues its long run.
Brian Bird Shares Season 14 ‘When Calls the Heart’ Update
Bird confirmed that season 14 of “When Calls the Heart” is already in progress following the season 13 finale. The longtime producer said the show continues to evolve while maintaining its core themes.
“I don’t have to do all the heavy lifting anymore,” Bird said. “We have great writers and a team around those projects, and so I get to be a proud kind of grandpa with those shows now.”
Bird credited the creative team for continuing to build out the world of Hope Valley while he focuses on additional projects. He emphasized that the show’s longevity comes from its strong community storytelling and consistent audience support.
“The proof of the pudding is the Hearties and the audience,” Bird said.
“We realized that there’s a vast starving audience out there for this kind of storytelling.”

Bird also addressed one of the biggest questions from fans following season 13: whether a wedding is finally on the way after Elizabeth Thornton and Nathan Grant’s extended engagement.
Bird indicated that viewers will likely see that storyline move forward in season 14.
“Well, something really horrible would have to happen for us not to get there, right?” Bird said. “It’s pretty hard to milk a season for another season out of an engagement.”
He continued, “I think the Hearties and the fans of ‘When Calls the Heart’ can rest assured that there will be some nuptials happening.”
Brian Bird Promotes ‘The Story of Everything’ Documentary
While discussing “When Calls the Heart,” Brian Bird also highlighted his new documentary, “The Story of Everything,” which will be released in theaters on April 30.
The film is based on Stephen C. Meyer’s book “Return of the God Hypothesis” and explores scientific and philosophical questions about the origins of the universe.
Bird described the project as a long-term effort that involved interviews with dozens of scientists.
“We have interviewed close to 30 world-class scientists for this movie,” Bird said. “This is all about the science. And the science doesn’t lie.”
He added that the documentary aims to spark conversation and offer a perspective that combines science with questions of meaning and purpose.
