WCTH Co-Creator Brian Bird Opens Up About His Passion Project ‘The Story of Everything’ EXCLUSIVE

Brian Bird is sharing new details about his upcoming documentary “The Story of Everything,” a years-long passion project that explores science, meaning, and the origins of the universe. The longtime television producer and creator behind “When Calls the Heart” spoke to EntertainmentNow from the set of his next project in Lexington and revealed the film has been a “labor of love” that took years to complete due to challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘The Story of Everything’ Focuses on Science & Design

Bird said the documentary is rooted in science rather than theology, drawing inspiration from philosopher of science Stephen C. Meyer’s book “Return of the God Hypothesis.”

“We believe this needs to be a movie,” Bird said. “It’s such an important topic about, really, the science that kind of proves God’s existence… we’re not pounding people over the head with theology here. This is all about the science.”

According to Bird, the film includes interviews with “close to 30… world-class scientists,” including Nobel laureates. He emphasized that the documentary presents perspectives from scientists with varying beliefs.

“Some of them are people of faith, but not all of them… they all… can’t deny what’s in front of our eyes,” Bird said, adding that the film examines “design in everything.”

The documentary explores topics including the origins of the universe, molecular biology, and the structure of life, presenting them through a scientific lens.

Brian Bird Calls Film a ‘Labor of Love’ Years in the Making

Bird said the project has been in development for nearly six years and faced delays during the pandemic.

“It’s taken forever… we had to go through COVID… and figure out a way to continue making progress,” he said.

Despite the challenges, Bird said the team remained committed to finishing the film and bringing it to audiences. He described seeing the documentary on a large screen as a transformative experience.

“The universe comes to life… it’s an unbelievable journey of your senses watching this movie,” Bird said.

Brian Bird’s ‘The Story of Everything’Aims to Reach Younger Audiences Seeking Meaning

Bird said one of the main goals of “The Story of Everything” is to connect with younger viewers searching for purpose.

“In a world where our young people are… taught… we are all a cosmic accident… that’s a really bleak view,” he said.

He added that the film presents an alternative perspective grounded in scientific discovery.

“This movie… says to people that they matter,” Bird explained.

Bird also pointed to what he described as a growing interest among younger generations in questions about meaning and identity.

“They’re hungry for meaning. And this movie brings them meaning,” he said.

“When Calls the Heart” will return for season 14 on the Hallmark Channel.

“The Story of Everything” hits theaters on April 30. Get tickets here.
