David Krumholtz gained a wide fanbase when he starred as Bernard the Elf in the beloved holiday classic, “The Santa Clause.”
While Krumholtz went on to have other iconic film roles including “Oppenheimer” and “Sausage Party,” he’s admitted he wants to see what else life has to offer.
On social media, he thanked fans and clued them in on what lies ahead for him.
David Krumholtz Wants to Explore Other Avenues Outside Hollywood
“Oppenheimer” star David Krumholtz has bravely decided to take a step back from the entertainment world.
“I kinda sorta put my acting career on hold the other day. It’s been something I’ve been petrified to do for years,” the actor shared in a Threads post, as noted by Parade. “Specifically, the fear was that I’d go broke and not be able to handle being out of the game.”
Though Krumholtz has a loyal fan base, he grew tired of “fighting” for roles and no longer found joy in it. After much thought, he sent out an email declaring his decision to step away from acting.
“A huge wave of relief washed over me,” “The Santa Clause” star added. “Not sure what I’m going to do for money instead, or how I’m going to do it, but I just removed a humongous burden, one that I truly didn’t fathom the weight of until it was gone. Frustrated, fed up, fried.”
David Krumholtz noted that he felt excited to explore new opportunities, particularly avenues that would allow him to give back and be of service to others.
“Cut to me, a year from now, filming one of those Hangry Snickers commercials as Bernard The Elf. Ha! Just kidding,” the 48-year-old quipped. “Gotta laugh. Gotta be grateful for all I’ve been given the opportunity to accomplish, for the folks who believed in me.”
“It’s been a breathtaking ride, truly. It’s been more than one big dream come true. And I slayed it. It healed a lot in me. It humbled me. I needed it. I’d be dead if I had never become an actor. I’m certain of that. And now, new life, ❤️ ” he concluded.
The ‘Oppenheimer’ Star Issues a Follow-Up Response
Fans around the world supported David Krumholtz’s decision to pause his career. He shared a follow-up post on Instagram further explaining his decision and expressing gratitude for his life so far.
“Firstly, I am very well. And I feel very loved,” the actor explained. “Secondly, I never used the word ‘retiring’ or ‘quitting.’ Instead, I said that I decided to put my career on hold. I don’t expect anyone to understand, but the outpouring of support for my decision has been deeply heartwarming.”
Krumholtz went on to add that he feels “wildly grateful” to everyone who helped bring his acting dreams to life. But even so, he began to struggle with “the weight of those dreams and ambitions.”
“There are no rules that guarantee success, but I know this: an amazing career in this business consists of a small handful of triumphs, but not without a mountain of disappointments,” he continued. “I love my mountain of disappointments, I do, but I’m human and my mountain is starting to sting more than it used to. Need time to figure that out, let it heal. My mental health is vital to my family. My career has run the gamut.”
“But I find myself at a crossroads between the inherent self involvement being a professional actor requires, and a burning desire to give more of myself to others in need, in whatever way I can,” Krumholtz concluded. “And so, for the time being, I’m pursuing that goal. There’s still more work to come. Stuff to be seen. And as always, I really hope you enjoy what I’ve put out there. Just,… gimme a sec. ❤️”
Fans wish David Krumholtz well on his next big adventures.
