Gil Junger’s teen rom-com “10 Things I Hate About You” is one of the most memorable and quintessentially 1990s movies of the 20th century’s final decade.
A modern retelling of William Shakespeare’s comedy “The Taming of the Shrew” (1590-1592), set in a typical late-1990s American high school, it follows a new male student who is smitten with a girl there. He attempts to get the school’s bad boy to date the girl’s antisocial sister (by paying him) in order to get around her father’s strict rules on dating.
It starred a primarily young cast that included Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, providing them with their breakthrough roles in Hollywood.
