Alexander Skarsgard’s hilarious science fiction comedy “Murderbot” is coming back for season 2 on Apple TV. Fans have long awaited news of a second season and finally, the good news has arrived for the Emmy-nominated show. However, not only is the series, based on Martha Wells’ book series, “The Murderbot Diaries,” renewed for a second season, but an amazing 25 new cast members have also been announced.
Apple TV is renowned for excellent science fiction content and one such example is “Murderbot,” with Skarsgard hilariously playing the titular role. Fans have been waiting for some time for good news and finally, their patience has been rewarded as the second season is announced.
Season 1 of “Murderbot” premiered in May 2025, and Apple TV was quick to order a second season of the show. However, fans had no idea how many new cast members would be announced, as 24 names have been revealed for season 2.
‘Murderbot’ Renewed For Season 2 on Apple TV

Deadline confirms that several stars from season 1 will return for the second season, but also announced some big names for the new season of “Murderbot.”
The following are the new cast members, listed alphabetically, with top stars like Michael Sheen and Steve Buscemi making the list.
Blair Underwood, Brendan Hunt, Bridget Everett, Britne Oldford, Damian Young, Divian Ladwa, Ella Jay Basco, Etienne Beydon, Griffin Newman, and Jaedynn Latter. The list of new cast also includes Jason George, Kali Reis, Katy O’Brian, Maddy Strauss, Marc Menchaca, Martha Plimpton, Meredith Salenger, Michael Sheen, Nia Otchere-Sarfo, Nicholas Braun, Patton Oswalt, Steve Buscemi, Topher Grace, Tramell Tillman and Wanda Sykes.
Currently, character details have yet to be announced, but among the list are some with already established relationships with Apple TV in other hit shows. For instance, Tramell Tillman stars in “Severance” as Seth Milchick, Brendan Hunt has featured in “Ted Lasso” as Coach Beard, Damian Young starred in “The Last Frontier,” and fans enjoyed watching Martha Plimpton in “Prime Target.”
Returning Cast And Plot For Season 2
Besides Skarsgard in the titular role of a robot who would rather be watching soap operas, other returning cast from season 1 includes David Dastmalchian as Gurathin, Noma Dumezweni as Ayda Mensah, Akshay Khanna as Ratthi, Sabrina Wu as Pin-Lee, Tattiawna Jones as Arada, and Tamara Podemski as Bharadwaj. When it comes to recurring guest stars, John Cho, Clark Gregg, Jack McBrayer, DeWanda Wise will reprise their roles.
So far, Apple TV has not announced the release date, but fans can expect the new season to stream in 2027. Moreover, it is likely that the second season will also feature 10 episodes, as did the first. It is also unknown which of the “Murderbot Diaries” will be adapted for season 2.
Now that production is underway, more updates are sure to be released, relating to the story line, characters and more. So far, it is unknown whether the popular sci-fi comedy will be renewed for a third season and will probably only be announced towards the end of season 2’s run.
