Have mercy! Uncle Jesse portrayer from “Full House,” John Stamos, is defending his castmate, Lori Loughlin after she and her now-estranged husband, Mossimo Gianulli, were caught in a college admissions scandal centering around their daughters in 2019.
In an interview with Josh Peck and Ben Soffer on their podcast, “Good Guys,” Stamos said, “I could still understand people being upset that their kids, you know, got great grades and they didn’t get in.”
He recalled calling Loughlin when the news hit about the scandal and told the hosts, “She’s not a liar. She’s a saint.”
Stamos added, “She didn’t deserve to be dragged through that.” As for her split with Gianulli, the “Full House” star revealed, “She’s just devastated.”
“And for a girl who, you know, has lived her life really well — a good person, a good mother, a good wife — I know all this for a fact,” he said.
Stamos shared, “To be thrown into, now, this separation … and blowing up her family this way, and I just hate to see her go through this.”
Stamos & Loughlin Were Almost a Thing
GettyLoughlin and Stamos were a couple-turned-spouses in “Full House” but they also could have been a pair in real life.
In Stamos’ memoir, “If You Would Have Told Me,” he wrote, “She’s my Sandra Dee from ‘Grease,’ the good girl with a kind heart who always makes me feel upbeat when I’m around her.”
He added, “She’s one of the few women I have spent day after day with and still always look forward to seeing her again. I know what makes her laugh, we get each other and we have the sort of true friendship that’s supposed to be the foundation of a great, lasting relationship.”
Despite his attraction to Loughlin, Stamos admitted to seeing his now-ex, Rebecca Romijn, at a Victoria’s Secret party in the ’90s and not being able to look away from her.
“Lori has had my number the whole time. As each leggy beauty walks down the runway, she shoots me a knowing look and maintains a little smirk. She knows I’m not as ready to settle down as I feel. She’s humoring me,” he wrote.
Stamos eventually went on to marry Romijn, but the two ended up separating in 2004.
Stamos & Loughlin Revisited Their ‘Full House’ Wedding
Uncle Jesse and Becky got married in season 4 of “Full House,” and the actors recalled the happy episodes on a June 6 episode of “How Rude, Tanneritos!”
“My favorite part of that was I asked my friend Kin Shriner — who was from ‘General Hospital’ [and] played Scotty Baldwin — and he played Sheriff Harold, and he comes out with a bullhorn. The Sheriff of Tomato Country coming out, eating a tomato with salt on it,” Stamos said.
On singing the hit song, “Forever,” Stamos said, “It’s a beautiful song about unrequited love, and I do it now in the live shows, and I show a video about Bob [Saget] a little bit, just about telling people that you love them, that you care about them, because tomorrow’s never promised.”
Giving a behind-the-scenes look, Loughlin revealed, “Both of our moms were extras. I love that they were, and your mom was the best extra. She was so into it. Loretta gave it her all. And my mom was like, ‘This is terrible,’ not feeling the whole way.”
She added, “My mom was a bit of a ham bone. I don’t know where I got it. That made it very special.”
