Carrie Underwood may be one of the biggest names in music, but at home, she’s focused on something far more down-to-earth—giving her kids a normal life.
The “Before He Cheats” singer recently opened up about raising her sons, Isaiah, 11, and Jacob, 7, on a sprawling Tennessee farm she shares with husband Mike Fisher.
Underwood Loves Farm Life
While her career often takes her to Los Angeles for her judging role on “American Idol,” Underwood says she’s intentional about keeping her family grounded.
“I learned very quickly that this is not real life,” she said during a Thursday, March 26 appearance on SiriusXM’s “Front Row,” referring to the fast-paced entertainment world. “I love performing… but the world that that takes you to is just not real.”
That contrast is exactly why she’s committed to raising her children outside of Hollywood.
On their property near Nashville, daily life looks far more traditional—and that’s by design.
“It’s important for me that home is just way different than this,” Underwood explained. “We get up, take them to school, make breakfast, pack lunches.”
Underwood Likes Having a Routine
Despite her demanding schedule, the eight-time Grammy winner prioritizes routine family time.
Dinner together is a near-nightly tradition, with Underwood often cooking meals herself.
“We eat dinner at least five nights a week at the table,” she shared, joking, “I don’t know if it’s good or not, but we ain’t starving.”
The farm itself plays a big role in shaping that lifestyle.
The family cares for a variety of animals, including cows, sheep, chickens, and donkeys.
Earlier this month, Underwood even introduced fans to two orphaned lambs they adopted, named Magnolia (Maggie) and Murray.
Beyond parenting, Underwood has fully embraced the slower pace of rural living.
When she’s not on stage, she enjoys hobbies that couldn’t be further from the spotlight—crocheting, birdwatching, gardening, and even making her own sourdough bread and kombucha.
“This entertainment world that we live in is not reality,” she said. “Reality is vacuuming and cleaning toilets and doing laundry and gardening and cooking—and that’s a world I love.”
Underwood would know.
She first rose to fame after winning Season 4 of “American Idol” in 2005, launching a career that’s spanned two decades.
Now, returning to the show as a judge marks a full-circle moment—but one she keeps in perspective.
For Underwood, success isn’t just about chart-topping hits or sold-out arenas.
It’s about making sure her kids grow up understanding the value of everyday life beyond fame.

Good for you Carrie, I also admire your talent. 😊
I give you a lot of credit. God bless you and your family.
