Keith Urban Removes Nicole Kidman-Inspired Song From Concert Setlist

Singer Keith Urban changed up his concert tour setlist, removing a song inspired by Nicole Kidman amid their divorce. The former “American Idol” judge had previously revised the lyrics, but now he’s cut the song entirely.

During his October 2, 2025, concert at Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, Urban didn’t perform the song “The Fighter.” The country star collaborated with Carrie Underwood on the song for his 2016 album, “Ripcord.”

In a March 2017 interview with The Boot, the singer explained how Kidman inspired the song.

“It was just a very quick, quick song to write, because I literally thought about Nic and I and our relationship in the beginning, and some of the things we had said all went into that song,” he shared.

The song includes the lyrics: “What if I fall? / I won’t let you fall / What if I cry? / I’ll never make you cry / And if I get scared? / I’ll hold you tighter / When they’re tryna get to you, baby, I’ll be the fighter.”

At another recent concert, Urban switched up the song lyrics to reference his guitarist, Maggie Baugh. “When they’re tryna get to you, Maggie, I’ll be your guitar player,” he sang.

Bough did not appear onstage during Urban’s October 3 “High and Alive World Tour” concert.

On September 29, news broke that Kidman and Urban were separating after 19 years of marriage. The next day, Kidman filed for divorce.

Urban Recalled Difficult Time in Marriage During Touching Kidman Tribute

During an April 2024 speech at the 49th AFI Life Achievement Award Gala honoring Kidman, Urban shared the details of a rocky time in their marriage.

“We got married in June 2006 and barely four months into our marriage, my addictions … that I’d done really nothing about, blew our marriage to smithereens,” he said.

Urban continued, “Four months into a marriage, I’m in rehab for three months. I had no idea what was going to happen to us … and if you want to see what love in action really looks like, give that a whirl.”

He added, “Nic pushed through every negative voice, I’m sure even some of her own, and she chose love. And here we are tonight, 18 years later.”

The singer shared later in the speech, “She also has a bit of a mantra and that is, ‘choose love.’ And I’ve watched her do this many times, navigating emotionally complex things that she’s gone through with so many people. She always chooses that phrase. She lives by it. Choose love.”

Urban added, “She has a capacity to love like no one I’ve ever met. Next year will be 20 years that I’ve been madly in love with you.”
