Keith Urban Appeared Uncomfortable When Asked About Nicole Kidman Ahead of Divorce

Before the news of Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman’s split, Urban seemed awkward when asked about his wife in a couple of interviews. Watch the former “American Idol” judge appear to move on quickly from questions about his marriage.

Keith Urban Seems Uncomfortable Talking About Nicole Kidman in Interview

In a September 2 interview with Gold 101.7’s “Jonesy & Amanda,” Urban avoided discussing too much about his relationship with Kidman.

The two met in January 2005 at the G’Day USA gala.

“If you hadn’t both been there that day, would your paths somewhere have inevitably crossed? Or maybe this incredible life story wouldn’t have happened,” co-host Amanda Keller asked.

Urban responded, “No, I think it would.” When asked if he believed in fate, he only answered, “No idea.”

After the awkward response, Keller noted, “I just often think that … that if you weren’t at that event, maybe you don’t have the same friendship group, it may never have happened.”

The singer removed his jacket before saying, “You never know … Anyway, moving on.”

On September 29, news broke that Urban and Kidman were separating after 19 years of marriage. Kidman filed for divorce the next day.

On September 30, the “Jonesy & Amanda” show Instagram account posted the interview clip.

“Prior to this, Keith Urban loved chatting about Nicole Kidman with us! He encouraged it, actually,” the caption noted. “We wish both Nicole and Keith all the best ❤️.”

Urban’s Fans Address His Body Lanuage

Fans took note of Urban’s body language in the interview, sharing their insight in the comments section.

“Visibly uncomfortable from the first question! The body language says it all!” one person noted.

Another person agreed, writing, “I thought the same. As soon as Nicole was mentioned it all changed. Short answers, then ‘moving on’ comment. Looking very awkward.”

Some fans, however, believed that Urban wanted to focus the interview on his tour and music. “He was probably there to promote his own things. He already answered one question and clearly the interviewer was just digging into his personal life,” one person noted.

“He was there to promote his own work. She did not take his hints,” another commenter wrote. “That’s on her.”

In a July 2025 interview with Ryan Seacrest, Urban also looked uncomfortable when the discussion turned to his wife.

The “On Air with Ryan Seacrest” host asked how the couple navigated their busy schedules. “Is that something with your life, her life and mapping it all out with production and touring — that’s a job, isn’t it?” Seacrest asked.

Urban paused and answered, “It’s a job. Yeah. Life is in session.”
