Keyla Richardson was a fan-favorite on “American Idol” season 24, easily making it to the Top 3 thanks to her powerhouse vocals. However, Richardson did not receive enough votes during the finale to win it all, leaving the singing competition in third place behind runner-up Jordan McCullough and winner Hannah Harper.
While Richardson did not win the season, that does not mean that her music dreams are over. Viewers have witnessed contestants from previous seasons who did not win find massive success after Idol. Jennifer Hudson? Adam Lambert? Chris Daughtry? Clay Aiken? All these stars continue to thrive in the entertainment world despite being on the Idol stage years ago.
Still, not everyone was satisfied with Richardson’s third-place finish, and of course, some of her biggest support came from her mom, who has been her biggest cheerleader.

Richardson Shares Hopes for a Promising Music Career After Idol
The “American Idol” season 24 finale kicked off with all three finalists taking the stage to sing a powerful rendition of Carrie Underwood’s “The Champion.” Following the performance, each contestant took the stage solo to perform a song by Alicia Keys, who was the final mentor of the season. For Richardson, she chose the song “Un-thinkable (I’m Ready),” which she shared was her anthem.
Later, the Top 3 sang a song dedicated to their hometown, and for Richardson, who hails from Pensacola, Florida, she chose to sing “I Love The Lord” by Richard Smallwood. It was an emotional performance that reflected her deep gospel roots.
After the first two rounds of performances, host Ryan Seacrest revealed that Richardson did not make the Top 2. Still, she went on to have an incredible performance with Jason Marz, performing “I Won’t Give Up,” a fitting song to end her run on Idol.
After the finale, Richardson took to Instagram, where she promised her fans that this is just the start of something bigger for her. Sharing two photos of her on the Idol stage, she captioned it, “The journey has been amazing, we are just getting started 💛 #Idol.”
Richardson is set to return to her hometown of Pensacola, where a major celebration is in store to celebrate her “American Idol” journey.
