While there’s sure to be intense competition and great performances during the first Hollywood Week episode of “American Idol” season 24, we can already guarantee the star of the show will be contestant Keyla Richardson’s adorable son, Drew.
Judges Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie were already smitten with Drew during his mom’s audition, when he sang for them too, performing For God & Country’s “God Only Knows.” In previews of the episode airing February 23, 2026, Richardon’s son is front and center again.

In a preview video for the first of two Hollywood Week episodes, Drew is seen sitting in Underwood’s seat as his mom performs “I Won’t Give Up” by Jason Mraz. He looks absolutely mesmerized by his mom, his mouth agape as she performs before an audience of 1,500 “Idol” fans.
After her performance, Drew gives his mom the most glowing review, saying into the microphone, “You did great, mom. I mean, your confidence, the way you just sung to the whole audience, really warmed my heart.”
Underwood looked like she was getting choked up, and Bryan raised his fist in the air as Richardson replied, “It’s for you, baby. I love you Drew Drew!”
Richardson is a single mom and teaches music at Life Shifting Learning Academy in Pensacola, Florida. According to the Pensacola News Journal, she has released gospel music on Spotify, drawing over 10,000 monthly listeners. In 2020, Richardson released an EP called “So Good” and her single of the same name hit number one on Billboard‘s Gospel Airplay chart, per the outlet.
