Katy Perry just posted a hilarious response to her ex Josh Groban’s engagement news, and fans are obsessed with the quirky video.
Katy Perry Reacted to Josh Groban’s Engagement With a TikTok Video
On Monday, May 11, Perry took to TikTok with a video response to Groban (an “American Idol” Season 23 guest mentor) getting engaged to Natalie McQueen. The clip featured her 2011 song “The One That Got Away” and a screenshot of a People article on the engagement news.
After a bit, the former “American Idol” judge walked onto the screen while wearing a white robe and rocking messy hair. She brought an empty glass and then filled it with an alcoholic beverage until it overflowed. As Perry took a drink, it spilled more on her robe as she pretended to sob.
Hilariously, Perry captioned her update, “Congrats 🥂.”
Fans Praised Perry’s Sense of Humor in the Comments
In the comments, Perry’s TikTok followers flooded her comments with their love for her unexpected post. One declared, “Lmao KATY NOOOOOOOO you hit post babes 😭😭😭.”
A second TikTok user jokingly echoed, “Katy…you shared this publicly…not to the girls chat 😂🙈.”
Another shared, “Since it’s Josh Groban, I understand Katy 😭.”
Someone else pointed out, “She had the opportunity to do the funniest thing, and she did 😂.”
A different fan admitted, “Lmao wait a minute 🤣 didn’t realize this was a KATY PERRY post 🤣,” as a second confessed, “Omg, I just realized this was Katy Perry’s page.”
Meanwhile, yet another TikTok user commented, “Guys, ‘The One That Got Away’ was written about Katy’s relationship with Josh Groban.”
Groban Reacted to ‘The One That Got Away’ Being About Him
In 2017, Perry revealed that “The One That Got Away” was about Groban in both a livestream and while playing “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” with host James Corden on “The Late Late Show,” per Billboard.
Groban publicly reacted to the revelations in 2018, during an appearance on “Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen.”
“I was not expecting that,” he admitted to host Andy Cohen. “That was a double-take and a spit of my coffee when I saw that. It’s very sweet of her to say that. I’m very flattered by it. But I was very surprised by it too.”
Groban added, “I listened to the lyrics of the song. And I’m like, ‘I never owned a Mustang. I don’t have a tattoo. Are you sure that’s about me?’”
Additionally, the “You Raise Me Up” singer opened up about their short-lived romance in 2009, explaining, “It was very private, and so we realized we were better as friends. We’ve been very, very good friends to this day. She’s the best.”
Groban & McQueen Announced Their Engagement in April
On April 21, Groban took to Instagram to announce his engagement to McQueen; they had been dating since 2022. “MY BEST FRIEND SAID YES!!!” he exclaimed.”
Groban continued, “Sharing this life with you is my happiest place, @nataliemcqueen. “Thank you @disneyweddings for helping make the best day of our lives (so far) so magical 🤍 (Also such a pleasure to design that gorgeous ring with @auroro.world who is a genius).”
Meanwhile, Perry is dating former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. She was previously married to Russell Brand and previously engaged to Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares a daughter, Daisy.
