Ryan Seacrest Reveals Who Would Be On His ‘American Idol’ Mount Rushmore

Almost twenty-five years later, and people are still passionately debating “American Idol,” which feels kind of perfect for a show that helped shape reality TV as we know it.

Longtime host Ryan Seacrest recently shared his personal “American Idol” Mount Rushmore during an interview with PauseRewind, and yep, fans immediately had thoughts. Some agreed with his picks completely. Others came ready with their own dream lineup of judges and contestants.

Either way, one thing is clear. The legacy of “American Idol” is still going strong after all these years, and fans remain deeply attached to the singers, judges, and unforgettable moments that made the franchise such a massive success.

Ryan Seacrest Keeps It Old School

When asked, “Who’s on your American Idol Mount Rushmore?!,” Seacrest didn’t hesitate to give credit to the people who started it all.

His answer:

“Well, it’d probably be the original team. The original panel. The original winner. Maybe throw Carrie in there, too. Since she’s with us now. But you gotta go OG on Mount Rushmore.”

That means Seacrest’s picks included Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood.

Honestly, it seems like a pretty nostalgic answer from Seacrest, especially considering he has been there since day one. “American Idol” premiered back in 2002, and the original trio of Jackson, Abdul, and Cowell became television icons almost overnight. Their chemistry, disagreements, and reactions helped turn the competition series into appointment television every single week.

Seacrest also reflected on how long the journey has been, adding:

“We had such a great time. It all started 25 years ago almost now.”

That comment alone probably sent longtime viewers straight into a nostalgia spiral.

The official “American Idol” Instagram account also leaned into the sentimental moment. In the post of the interview shared Tuesday, May 5, 2026, the account commented, “An ode to the OGs 💙”

And honestly? Fans of early “American Idol” absolutely understood the assignment.

Fans Started Building Their Own ‘American Idol’ Mount Rushmores

It didn’t take long for viewers to jump into the conversation with their own personal rankings. Because if there’s one thing “American Idol” fans love, it’s debating contestants and judges.

Some viewers fully embraced Seacrest’s nostalgic approach, with one fan commenting, “25 years of ICONS 🔥”

Others decided to have a little fun with the conversation. One person joked, “What about Brian Dunkleman 🤓,” a callback longtime viewers definitely recognized. Brian Dunkleman co-hosted the very first season alongside Seacrest before leaving the series.

Meanwhile, plenty of fans focused heavily on the contestants themselves, especially the winners and breakout stars who went on to have major careers after the show.

One fan wrote, “Don’t care who is on it as long as Carrie is. Voted every week for two hours and have been a fan ever since. Plus, she’s the most successful in her genre.”

Another suggested, “Um no!! Jennifer, Carrie, Fantasia and Kelly”

Someone else added, “Kelly Clarkson, Fantasia, Jennifer Hudson and Jordin Sparks”

And another viewer shared, “Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood, Fantasia for me ❤️”

Seeing names like Fantasia Barrino, Jennifer Hudson, Jordin Sparks, and Chris Daughtry pop up over and over again really shows how many stars the series has created over the years.

And let’s be real. That’s part of what makes this debate so fun.

There truly isn’t one “correct” Mount Rushmore for “American Idol.” Some fans prioritize the original judges because they helped launch the franchise into a cultural phenomenon. Others focus on contestants who built massive music careers after the show. Some people lean toward vocal talent, while others connect more with memorable personalities and emotional journeys.

That’s kind of the magic of “American Idol.” Different eras mean different things to different viewers.

While fans continue debating the ultimate “American Idol” Mount Rushmore online, the show itself is still making new memories with Season 24 currently airing on ABC.

The Season 24 finale is officially scheduled for Monday, May 11, 2026 at 8:00pm ET, and it seems like the competition is getting more intense by the minute.

According to a press release, “The Top 3 finalists give their all for the last chance to earn America’s vote. Alicia Keys serves as guest mentor and performer, plus special performances from other music legends and today’s top stars.”

Revealed during the May 4 episode, the Top 3 includes Keyla Richardson, Hannah Harper, and Jordan McCullough.

Honestly, that lineup alone has fans excited heading into finale week. Each contestant has built a strong following throughout the season, and viewers already seem deeply invested in who could ultimately take home the title.

And with music superstar Alicia Keys joining the finale as both a mentor and performer, the final episode is shaping up to be a major event for longtime fans and newer viewers alike.

After almost 25 years, “American Idol” still knows how to keep audiences talking (and voting).
