Barrett’s changing approach to “Big Brother 28” has caught the attention of several former houseguests.
“Big Brother 23” stars Tiffany Mitchell, Hannah Chaddha, Claire Rehfuss and Derek Frazier discussed Barrett’s game during the Aug. 31 episode of Heavy Crown Network’s “The Royal Tea.” The group has criticized some of Barrett’s earlier decisions this season, but his recent willingness to separate his game from the Icons earned a more positive response.
Barrett began pushing back against the alliance after weeks of working closely with its members, potentially opening a new path for him as “BB28” moves toward its endgame.
Claire Rehfuss Says She Has ‘Respect’ for Barrett’s Game
The panel discussed Barrett’s decision to stop automatically following the Icons, with Derek saying he was happy to finally see him “wake up.”
Claire was especially encouraged by the shift.
As a “Big Brother” superfan herself, Claire said she could relate to Barrett becoming comfortable within an alliance before eventually realizing he needed to make a move for his own game.
She argued that players sometimes need to take risks rather than remain comfortable throughout the season.
Claire said Barrett was willing to “put his neck out” and make a decision that served his own interests.
“No matter what else happens, like I do have respect for Barrett in the game and who he is as a player,” she said.
Claire also noted that she does not necessarily believe Barrett should completely turn against Drew, explaining that doing so may not benefit his game.

Barrett’s change became particularly noticeable when the Icons wanted him to make a move that benefited their plans.
During another discussion on the podcast, the panel noted that Barrett declined to follow their wishes involving Yash. It marked a significant departure from his previous strategy of maintaining a comfortable position alongside the alliance.
The move also comes as Drew’s decisions have given Barrett and Melody more information about where they stand.
Drew previously chose to save Angela rather than Melody during the medieval-themed competition. The panel argued that the decision showed Melody and Barrett which relationships Drew currently prioritizes.
For Barrett, that could provide another reason to build a path independent of the Icons.
‘BB28’ Endgame Leaves Barrett With New Opportunities
Barrett’s shift arrives as the structure of the house becomes increasingly difficult for any player to navigate.
Drew won the latest Head of Household competition and initially nominated Taylor, LaTrice and Yash. Yash then won the Power of Veto, forcing Drew to choose a replacement nominee.
The panel noted that the decision could expose relationships that players previously managed to keep protected.
Hannah said the season’s format also leaves even powerful players vulnerable as the game approaches its final stages.
While Barrett still has work to do, the “BB23” veterans see an opportunity for him to become a more active player.
Claire suggested that making the uncomfortable move could ultimately leave Barrett more satisfied with the game he played, regardless of his final placement.
After spending much of “BB28” in a secure position, Barrett may now have an opportunity to prove how far he can go when he begins playing primarily for himself.
