Global TV is making a major “Big Brother” change after the upcoming season.
The Canadian network announced Tuesday that “Big Brother” season 28 will be the final season of the U.S. reality competition series to air on Global, according to Global News in Canada.
It should be noted that this update does not mean “Big Brother” is ending. It means the CBS series is ending its run on Global, which has aired the U.S. episodes for Canadian viewers since the show first launched in 2000.
The news comes two years after “Big Brother Canada” ended in 2024 after 12 seasons on Global. The Canadian edition originally launched in 2013 and became one of Global’s main reality franchises.
Global TV Announces ‘Big Brother’ Season 28 Will Be Its Last
CBSGlobal confirmed the change while announcing its season 28 schedule for Canadian viewers.
“We are incredibly proud to have been the Canadian home of Big Brother since its launch in 2000, bringing this series to audiences nationwide,” Jennifer Abrams, senior vice-president of content and marketing at Corus Entertainment, said in a statement to Global News.
Abrams said the network is ready to switch up its summer show schedule after season 28.
“As we look ahead, we’ve made the decision to move on from the series and refresh Global’s summer lineup,” she said.
Abrams added that Global is looking toward “new programming opportunities” for its schedule next year.
“We are excited about the new programming opportunities this transition creates for Global’s schedule in the coming year and remain committed to delivering high-impact summer content, with a focus on broad, mainstream hits and new formats designed to engage audiences across both linear and streaming,” Abrams said.
For Canadian viewers, the announcement marks the end of a long TV run. Global has been the Canadian home of the U.S. version of “Big Brother” for more than two decades.
Global did not announce where Canadian viewers will be able to watch future seasons of “Big Brother” U.S. after Season 28.
