Rick Devens’ run on “Big Brother 28” took a dramatic turn Monday. The “Survivor” veteran was named a replacement nominee for the first time this season.
Devens was initially feeling comfortable heading into the week. However, his position quickly changed after Yash Patel won the Power of Veto and used it to remove himself from the block.
That left Head of Household Drew Campbell with the task of naming a replacement nominee. He ultimately chose Devens, putting the reality TV veteran alongside LaTrice “Lala” Verrett and Taylor Brown.
The nomination marks a major fracture for the Crossovers alliance. That alliance had included Devens, Dee Valladares, Angela Murray, Barrett Pfeiffer and Campbell.
Safety Comes Down to the Block Buster
Despite being nominated, Devens still has a path to safety.
The three nominees will compete in Thursday’s Block Buster competition, with the winner earning safety from eviction. The two remaining nominees will then face the house vote.
For Devens, the competition could be particularly important. He has spent much of the season as one of the game’s more influential players.
His nomination also represents a significant shift in the house’s power structure. The Crossovers had appeared to give Devens a strong group of allies. However, Campbell’s decision to nominate him suggests those relationships may no longer offer the same protection.
Chaotic Week in the BB House
The latest shake-up comes during an already eventful week.
Mallory Aurichio was evicted during the show’s historic 1,000th episode. The houseguests then faced a Medieval Times twist, resulting in Haley Thogmartin’s elimination from the game.
Following those developments, the game returned to its regular format. Campbell won Head of Household, and Patel secured the Power of Veto.
Now, Devens, Lala, and Taylor are fighting for their spots in the game.
Thursday’s Block Buster will also have added significance. The houseguest who ultimately leaves will become the first member of the seven-person jury. That jury will determine the winner of “Big Brother 28” at the season finale on Oct. 1.
With one of the season’s biggest crossover stars suddenly vulnerable, the next competition could determine the outcome. It could decide whether Devens’ “Big Brother” comeback continues or ends much sooner than expected.
